Question:
Any suggestions of books to read (I'm 16)?
2009-09-19 16:39:09 UTC
For the longest time, I didn't read because I wanted to at all. The other day I went to the library at school with a friend and she picked up a book and was like this book is really good read it! so I did, it was Jinx-Meg Cabot. And I really enjoyed it.

anyway, I'm 16 and looking for.. well I really like romance-type books but not those pre-teen things. I loved "Twilight" but not so much the rest of the series.

any suggestions?

P.S.- I'm not just looking for romance-type books, anything really. Thanks

I totally agree with you about Twilight!

Others by Meg Cabot are the Princess Diaries series, you should read those.

Another book that isn't a romance is The Kite Runner. It's amazing though. Seriously read it!

Deadly Little Secrets - Laurie Faria Stolarz

Beloved - Toni Morrison

Dreamhunter - Elizabeth Knox

Wings - Aprilynne Pike

Going too Far - Jennifer Echols

Incantation - Alice Hoffman

any Sarah Dessen books

The Summer That I Turned Pretty - Jenny Hann

Dark Visions - L.J Smith

Evermore - Alyson Noel

Fire - Kristin Cashore

Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead

The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine

The Darkess Powers series by Kelley Armstrong

and yeah, anyone of these books are good. They all have a little bit of romance in them but theres enough adventure and stuff for it not to over power the books. and they're all really really good.

Well if you're up for a mindblowing book try reading one called "1984" by George Orwell. This book is absolutely amazing! It's got romance in it as well so no worries there but this is the sort of book that will leave you reeling once you finish the last page. If you want a "feelgood" sort of book then this isn't it.

Movies like Equilibrium and books like V for Vendetta take much of their feel and even some plot from this book.

If you want to read only to pass time and be entertained (as opposed to having your mind broadened) then books like The hunter's Blades by R.A. Salvatore (and his others) are amazing. Fantasy genre with plenty of action and a very healthy dash of romance. His book "The highwayman" is a standalone one and is amazing too!

If you like thrillers then try "Sphere" and "Timeline" by Michael Chrichton

It's good to hear that you're getting into reading a bit more!

Well, There are plenty of books that can interest you like,

If you re a real Twilight fan try New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn (Stephen Meyers All of them)

Or if your a mystery fan you could try The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demon, The Lost Symbol (Dan Brown) Or something classic.

Umm.. You like cartoon novels or something just to chill out? Try Jiff Kinney's Diary Of A Wimpy kid its good if you re just relaxing and chilling out

For Horror Goosebumps has a wide variety but its kind of a more teen book if that's what you dont like.

if you re into school adventures and stuff high school survival will be fine

Anyhow i hope you will be able to use this info good luck with your reading

yeah, I'm going to have to agree with you about Twilight as well.

as far as books go, I'm not a good person to really answer because I read the classics like, Romeo & Juliet (even though we read it in 9th grade), the scarlet letter, hamlet, huckleberry fin, etc.

but The Sisterhood of the traveling pants Series is good, I'm currently reading Three Willows by the same author. Catalyst is really good.

Dear Zoe, is the best! It made my eyes water, but it's not TOO sad. It's perfect. Uh...that's all I can think of right now.

The chronicles of Vladimir Tod is a book I really liked. It has some romance in it since there is a girl in the book the main character has a crush on. White fang is also good.

I suggest that you should read the mortal instruments series its really good and most people who liked twilight liked this book also. The first book is called city of bones.

I would also recommend White oleander its a bit different and very good.

try reading the blue bloods series by Melissa de la cruz. it is sorta the same idea as twilight, but its not one of those cody-cat series, its totally different. well, what im saying is if you liked twilight, you will like these books. only the first three have come out. they can be bought at any book store in the teen/young adult section.

"This is a sort of a love story that takes place inside a pack of Camel cigarettes. It reveals the purpose of the moon, and paints a portrait of contemporary society that includes powerful Arabs, exiled royalty and pregnant cheerleaders. It also deals with the problem of redheads. "
