My teenage boy had the same problem. He hated reading because nothing seem to interest him. One day he got a job working night shift at a gas station, and had nothing to do all night, so he asked me *gasp* "What's good to read?"
On cable TV, TBS used to show the James Bond movies, so I got him "Goldfinger" by Ian Fleming. A couple of days later, he was done! He actually asked me for more books. *sniff* More books. My boy. Excuse me a second. So I got him all of Ian Fleming's books, and some of John Gardner, too.
Anyhow, after he burned through the James Bond books, he needed more, and there used to be a TV show called "Spenser for Hire" about a wise-cracking Boston private eye, his girl Susan, and his buddy Hawk. The show was based on a series of novels by Robert B.Parker, and they are fast-paced mysteries with lots of action and laughs. He read and loved those, too.
Try these, if you want, and keep trying different stories. Like Star Wars? There are tons of stories, including novels from the movies. Star Trek is the same! Mr Monk has books, too!
Ask your librarian for books. Look in the YA (Young adult) or look for books that were made into movies that you liked, or, were made from movies you liked. A lot of times, they write novels based on screenplays, and they can be fun to read, too!
