Question:
Can I read The Da Vinci Code without having read Angels and Demons?

I recently got the book 'The Da Vinci Code' from a friend, and he said he had never read Angels and Demons, but enjoyed the book anyway. I was wondering if there will be confusion or references to the first book, and if so, will the book still be readable?

the first answer is wrong, davinci code is 2nd. i have read both but i read davinci first. it makes a few references to angels and demons, but the references are intended to be informative to the person who has never read A & D, rather than as an inside reference you would only understand having read them both. bottom line, you are fine reading davinci code on its own, but i actually liked angels and demons better, so make sure you give it a shot too, k? check out my review of both on The Book Buff http://www.thebookbuff.blogspot.com

Angles and Demons was published in 2000, and The Da Vinci Code was published in 2003.

They have the same main character. I've read The Da Vinci Code, but not Angles and Demons. The stories, from what I understand, are not connected other than being about the same guy.

The Da Vinci Code was published before Angels and Demons and they are two completely separate plots so no, in fact you should read The Da Vinci Code first.

Nope, I did the same thing. Didn't bother me. As soon as you read Angels and Demons go read The Lost Symbol. All good books

By the way Carey is wrong. Angels and Demons was written first, then DaVinci Code, then The Lost Symbol.

There are 2 books before Angels and Demons, they are Digital Fortress, and Deception Point. All of these books are a great read.

The da vinci code comes BEFORE Angels and demons, so no, you don't have to read Angels and demons 1st.

As the Da Vinci Code was written and published before Angels and Demons (which is what is sometime called a prequel) there is no problem.

Yes you can. Andrew's right about the publishing dates. You can still read The DaVinci Code first. It stands on its own.

That's how they were meant to be read!
