Blame it on

1.Robert Pattinson

2.Fantasy genre

3.Crazy Fan club (because they are both famous books)

These are the only things I found common in them.

First of all, Twilight is not a saga. It's a series. Look up the definition of saga, it doesn't fit.

Anyway, HP and Twilight are being compared because they are pretty much the books of the hour, since both have movies coming out and they appeal to the same audience (pretty much) and they're fantasy, not to mention Twilight came out pretty close to when the seventh Harry Potter did, making it sort of a "replacement" book for the generation of readers purchasing it. It's only because they're both popular, and that's pretty much it, because if the two were to be compared on other factors, such as character development, plot, themes/messages, writing style, etc. Harry Potter would claim every prize over Twilight.

I agree with you. =) I'm a good fan of the Twilight series, but Harry Potter is clearly the better book.

The reason many people (mainly girls) are so hooked on the Twilight series, is because the idea of cute vampires and forbidden romances lure them in. Yes, I like the Twilight series, but only for those two reasons. It's another Romeo and Juliet, isn't it? The original idea of vampires, was Van Helsing. Van Helsing was a great idea, and I think that so the reason so many authors have 'stolen' the vampire idea, was because they knew how much the idea of vampires excited readers all over the world.

And then there's Harry Potter. Harry Potter, a story of an ordinary boy... or so he thought. The world of Hogwarts has stolen many hearts over the years, and it's safe to say that the books and movies have been one of the writing world's biggest successes. The magic of Harry Potter is to this day a great set of books, and most around the world can say that they have read the books or seen the movies.

In no way should people be comparing Harry Potter and Twilight. I've got nothing against Twilight, but Harry Potter is CLEARLY the better of the two by aeons of fans.

But, I guess everyone has their own opinions, and I honestly don't mean to offend any twi-hard's out there, but this is fact, and people should understand that.

After the Twilight movie had been filmed, it was said that Robert Pattinson severely regretted agreeing to play the part of Edward. You hear interviews with Harry Potter characters all the time, and not one of them says that they regret taking on their roles and joining the Harry Potter cast.

The Twilight movie is ruined by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's poor acting skills.

At least when Harry Potter fans talk about Harry Potter, they can give you a really clear description of why they love Harry Potter. If you asked a Twilight fan why they loved Twilight, all you would get back in response would be 'OMG! EDWARD IS SO HOT!'. It's silly, really.

The reason they're being compared is because somewhere along the lines someone said that Twilight was "the new Harry Potter." That of course drove Harry Potter fans crazy causing them to instantly retaliate by saying how Twilight is crap. This of course got the Twilight fans pissed so they began saying that Harry Potter is crap. That is how the two began to become compared. And no, they definitely should not be compared, the only similarity between the two is the genre. To compare them people are using their own opinions (which do not make valid comparisons) and stuff they have pulled out of their own a**. Pardon my french.

Probably because awhile ago Stephen King was talking about Smeyer and Twilight along with J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter which then spawned this amazing quote by Stephen King.

"Stephenie Meyer can write worth a damn. She's not very good."

This quote spawned all the Twatlighters to angst and such and ultimately get pissed off. Then with all this delicious anger building up in Twilight fans they started calling both Stephen King and J.K. Rowling horrible writers via the internet.

USA Weekly finally settled the debate with a poll between the three.

Stephen King has 69.9%

J.K. Rowling has 23.9%

Smeyer has 6.3%

thus shutting up Twilighters forever and making Harry Potter and Twilight be compared but not Twilight and Stephen King books because Stephen King is god compared to Smeyer's trash.

You're right, they are two completely different books. The reason they are being compared is because when twilight started to get popular (EVEN BEFORE THERE WAS AN INKLING OF A MOVIE) they interviewed Meyer and one of the idiot interviewers suggested that she was equal to J.K. Rowling. This outraged HP fans who had read Twilight and had any bit of sense. Because honestly. Meyer's series is awful. Harry Potter doesn't have to be the best series in the world or anywhere close to be better than that piece of garbage. So comparing the two in terms of story is ridiculous and comparing them in terms of quality is really an incredible insult to Rowling.

I don't think that they should be compared, They are two completely different kinds of movies. Yes they both involve fantasy But they shouldn't be compared to the other. Not to mention how do you compare a series that contains Edward cullen in it to another one. Edward plays cedric in the 4th Harry Potter so if anyone wants to compare anything then it shouldn't be one series against the other it should be comparing his acting skills. In which case in my opinion his acting was much better in Harry Potter. Don't get me wrong I love twilight but feel that he looks like they portrayed his pain in his lust for bella all the wrong way.

Two reasons:

1. Both are wildly popular books published by two authors who were totally unknown previously.

2. Robert Patterson played Cedric Digory in the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film. He then went on to be Edward Cullen in the Twilight films.

And unless it's a debate about whose writing style is better/more advanced, then there really isn't much to debate between the two. It'd be like debating Apples and Bananas.

The ONLY thing they have in common is their genre and that they're super famous. I don't think they should be compared, hello? These people read, they should have some knowledge, witches/wizards and vampires are not the same thing, and should not be compared! The only reason I like Harry Potter more is because of Twilight's horrible spelling!

Twilight SHOULD NOT be compared to Harry Potter. The only reason people are is because Twilight is nearly as famous now, even though it really shouldn't be. The only reason it's famous is because 13-year-olds saw how "HAWT" "Rpatz" (to quote their little pet name), was and apparently, looks are all that matter in a person, even though the series as a whole promotes stuff such as abusive relationships, pedophilia, child-grooming, romanticizing suicide. Oh, and not to mention, Stephenie Meyer misuses the word "chagrin" approximately 50,000 times.

But no, these annoying fangirls can't see that, all they care is, "Ooh, Edward's so SPARKLY HAWT!"

If one more person says that Twilight is better than Harry Potter, I will scratch their eyes out.

you have a point

harry potter was popular even before they heard of a harry potter movie twilight was out for like 3 years and you never really heard of it until the movie

harry potter is for people of all ages and both genders

twilight is directed more towards girls and teens

everyone knows Harry Potter is the best. The Twilight books have been out for years and only became popular when the movie came out because "ZOMG! EDWARD IS SO HAWT! HE CAN WATCH ME SLEEP ANYTIME!" and it's not just teens who say this crap, but grown up college students in their 20's say this crap of a reason for liking twilight.

no, twilight is not even in the same league as HP but once upon a time some loser said that Twilight will be the next Harry Potter. we HP fans are outraged by this and are merly defending our pride and honor.

They're being compared because David Yates, the Harry Potter director, ruined the new Harry Potter movie. He took the actual plot of the movie and made it take a backseat to the love story so that it would do better than Twilight did.

tl;dr, David Yates is a dick.

Well, you're just adding fuel to the fire.

I don't know why they compare them. Asking this question, though, is just provoking Twitards. In case you haven't noticed, in most cases Harry Potter fans are much more eloquent in expressing their opinions than Twilight fans.

I think it's because Twilight is the next best thing to Harry Potter...

Ok, a lot of people would disagree, it's more like...it's the next most popular book to Harry Potter there ever was so far.

Hope I helped! :)

Because people are stupid. No, they should not even be comapred. It's like comparing chocolate fudge cake to broccoli in taste, Twilight being the broccoli, and if you admit that broccoli is just the nastiest thing ever.

It's only because they were in the same movie together and the publicity hounds are trying to play on this rivalry of stars. Daniel Radcliff is seasoned compared to that water head ugly face Rob Pattinson.

I don't know but its dumb

They are wo different books

The only reason ist compared is beccuase of its popularity.

Its unfair to compare it.

You just can't compare a romance with an adventure sequel, its messed up.

No, I think it is very grade school if you know what I mean. And most of the people who read it are probley IN grade school. But its very....... childish. They should be doing something else with there time besides comparing two very different books.

They are both the fantasy genre, that is it. Who is "they" by the way? Critics? Regardless it is a silly comparison. Like comparing...I dont know, say Nickelback and The Beatles. Both rock and roll, right.

2009-07-21 02:10:51 UTC
No, it's unfair to compare anything with Twilight, because it will lose regardless.

I think people are doing so because they're both quite popular amongst the teenage crowd. Although HP actually has a storyline, plot, character development, etc... as opposed to "OMG I LUV U EDWARD N UR SPARKLING SKIN DONT EVR LEAVE ME OR ILL COMMET SUICYDE"

Plus, I haven't read anything about Daniel, Rupert, and Emma regretting their roles as much as I've read about Robert regretting the Edward role.

i know they have nothing in common apart from the face there both fiction (i wish they werent though =(. )

i think theyre both equally good its just morons who even waste thier time coparing the 2 EVRYONE should know harry potter is better... in my opinion but then of course everyone is free to use thier opinion arent they?

some need to be kept to themselves.

So no understanding+ bookworms = NERD RAGE! (only joking!)
