i believe in the 6th book snape reveals some clues about the punishment of secret keepers who spill the beans (which i thought to be death). But if it is in fact death and peter pettigrew was the secret keeper for harry potter's parents why had he not died?

Secret Keepers are the only ones that know the location of a building.... such as 12 Grimuald Place or the Potter's place in Godric's Hollow.

Even tho others might now how to get there, the only person that can actually see the place is the Secret Keeper. They never said anything about the punishment, exactly, but it is not like the punishment for the Unbreakable Vow, which is death.

I guess Secret Keepers are just as the name says. The persons safety lies in the Secret Keeper. I think the only threat for Godric's Hollow was just finding Lily, James, and Harry. Whereas the secret keeper for Grimmauld Place has other enchantments on it. Just like the list that Maria (I think. Cho Changs friend) had a bunch of acne on her face after she spilled the beans about Dumbledore's Army. I think James and Lily had no idea that there friend would do that to them and didn't take any further precautions.

idk, thats a good question, but i think that they can tell, they just dont if theyre given that job. pettigrew didnt die becuz he wouldve had the choice to tell where the potters lived. but why the hell did he kill himself, or why did his hand!?!?
