Am I too old to still write "Dear Diary"?

I have a diary and every new entry I start with "Dear Diary". I'm 20 years old and sometimes feel it's childish. Is it childish to still write "Dear Diary"?

Why don't you write into your Diary about your feelings about how you can't call your dear diary 'Dear Diary' anymore. Because, you know, once you hit 20, all the fun and childish stuff go away.



I'm sorry. What I mean is, it's your diary. And one is never too old to write 'Dear Diary.'

Or watch cartoons all day.

Or still hula hoop.

Or any other childish thing that one wishes to do when they are labeled 'not a child anymore.'



I babble. You get my point.







Are you going to listen to a self conscious 15 year old or a who-cares 22 year old?



Your decision. It really shouldn't bother you. If you want, continue writing it. If you don't, then don't. Just write the date instead.

A diary is personal, so you can open however you want. When I was little, I named my diary rose, and I still start every entry with, "Dear Rose." When I think about it, it's kind of silly, but it's like a little ritual now and I just can't stop.



Even if it is childish, and I don't know that it is, it's your diary. If you don't feel comfortable with it anymore, drop it, but if your only consideration is how it will look to others, keep doing it. No one is ever going to see it.

In my diary I write the date at the start of the entry, e.g.



Sunday, 24th February 2013

Today, I...



This makes it easier to document on what date things occurred on, so I can refer back to it when I'm older. It's your decision; if I preferred writing Dear Diary, I would. It's just I would like to reflect back on my life when I'm older, so I write the date.
