Am I the only one who thinks the harry potter movies were a bad idea?

They have all sucked and I have no idea why people like them. Except for the basic plot the last 2 movies have totally disregarded the book. I guess they knew kids would be watching the movies and made them short on purpose. but by doing that they ruined the story line. If you have read the books you should hate the movies because it is nothing like the book. If you haven't read the book you should be totally confused. The Lord of The Rings books did well because they were longer. Unless Harry Potter does the same thing they will just get worse and worse.

That s what the movies based on the books are for - the directors make their own interpretations. If you get a movie that is EXACTLY the same as the book, then it would be a visio book [like audio book]. I like that they made the movies because it is easier to imagine characters physically, and, as I am not a native English speaker, I get to know how to pronounce some words [like Hermione - in Lithuanian they translated it as Her-mee-oh-na], and I read the books in English.

Some interpretations made in movies are better than in books. Well, only one actually - the end of the 5th movie, where Voldy gets inside Harry in the Ministry. I really adored that scene in the movie, and in the book it was so-so. Oh and fighting scenes [also in the 5th movie] look way better in movies.

Of course they cut out many many important details. But i believe that there is no point in watching the movies if you haven't read the books. Still, we all know why they make movies - some people are just too stupid or too lazy to read, and, lets face it, they sell.

I think all the movies are awesome. They put all the important plot points in there. I mean there's only so many scenes involving the trio walking the corridors and talking in the common room that can fit in there. If they put in every single detail of those books the movies would be like 12 hours long each and they would frankly be BORING! What works in a book that you can put down and come back to anytime does NOT work in a film in which the story has to keep moving in order to hold the audience!

I think all of the movies are exactly like the books. If they were nothing like the books then Harry POtter would be a girl, it would be set in a boarding school in California, Voldemort would be played by Lindsey Lohan and would be Harry's rival for prom queen, and Harry's parents would have died from botched plastic surgeries.

So the movies are just like book, so what?? they leave stuff out...boo freakin' hoo! I love those books to death and I love the movies. People who think the movies are bad clearly don't understand how the movie industry works at all!

And the Lord of the Rings movies were not longer. All of the Harry Potter movies have been about 2hrs. 30mins. The first two LOTR movies are also 2hrs. 30mins. The 3rd one is only one that's like 3hrs. and that's because it was the last one and it had 10 endings!!!

And in case you haven't heard they split Deathly Hallows into 2 FILMS!! They could have just as easily made it into ONE movie, but it's going to be TWO films and each film is probably going to be about 2hrs. 30mins long!! That's freakin' 5hrs!! for ONE book!!!

well for me : i started my adoring love for harry potter with the movies actually and now u can hardly diffrenciate between me and those who are obsessed with harry potter because i am one of them and in their level ...YET let me tell u: i read the books after some of the movies and i absolutely thought i was a dumb person for even liking them as movies i adored the books and movies seemed like rubbish i felt the people around me who don't understand anything from the book seem mesmerized by the movie which i'm sure they haven't understood it more than a person who read the books has ... so i'm with u the movies totally wrecked the books it's really well made but u hardly understand, you're just fascinated by the art not the meaning and you don't get the true magic behind...

well i expressed by point but i have to say that not all the movies are bad ..(so you're gonna think i'm stupid at this but i'll say it) i thought the best one was the 4th because maybe yes it wasn't like the book which was a master piece in all the series and is my best by far but the movie was special in it's own way if u see it like a normal movie you'd think it a verrrry gud not related to the books and it had the best performance it touched me and i don't know WHY the whole people kept saying it was the worst it hurt me ..then the order of the phoenix came out and it distroyed the history of the books and the movies for me i didn't like it a bit (so sorry for the ones who did) but it had weak performance and very bad script and things that were not in it's place also it was very fast while the book was extremely big (and one thing to prove my unliking to the book : well in the 5th movie something that was comepletely stupid was when neville came to harry and just told him about his parents' death by bellatrix how dumb! in the book it was said that neville never told anyone of that matter and that dumbledore told harry at the 4th because of what he saw in the pansieve, and he told him not to tell anyone because neville didn't tell the people because he would get hurt and dumbledore asked harry not to hurt him with it....so HOW was it that neville just plunk up the courage and would tell harry straight in the face! i mean i know they didn't do the scene of the pansieve in the 4th and it was not the producers fault that that didn't happen but they couldn't found another way!!!)

i hope the 6th would be better i really do!!!

No, you are not alone. I've been saying for years that they need to make the movies right, or not at all. The way they're doing the movies now is just an insult to the books! I think they should stick to the true story, leave out less and not add things that aren't there. Maybe they haven't noticed, the books are phenomenally popular, and its because they are amazing. You shouldn't mess with a good thing. They leave out so much, the only way they can ever be good is if they make the movies longer.

Yes and No.

I first started reading the books after I saw the first movie, without it I probably never would have started (and finished) the series.

But at the same time, the movies were not nearly as good as the books. In all of the movies mayjor parts are left out and somethings get really messed up, I hope that it is not the same with the Twilight movie!

*I think that the movies are better for people who have not read the books, because I loved the first movie, and after I read the books, they were all disappointing

I agree with everything you say about the movies, I only saw two of them. Lord of the Rings movies were also not interesting to me. Many times the movie version of books is changed around a lot, and sometimes the movie versions barely resemble the original. I think that has been true since movie making began.

I think readers, in general, do not like the movie versions of books that they like. That is what my English teacher taught us in high school.

On the other hand if someone is not a reader I think that seeing the movie might get them interested in reading.

The Harry Potter stories are interesting and fun. I think the movies are great for people who like movies, and when I see them on cable, I always watch for a few minutes.

well i like the harry potter movies and ive read all the books right when they came out but ur rite about there being missing plot lines. But when you think about that the people who make the movies cant always stick so close to the book be cause there would be a huge lawsuit you have to think before you ask.

You just have to accept the fact that it's nearly impossible to cram everything that in a 300 page book into a 2 hour movie without screwing it up. I can only think of one movie that was better than the book it was based on: The Princess Bride. And in that case, the author (William Goldman) also wrote the movie script.

I agree with you that they aught to make the movies longer to fit in with the books better, but i think they are still great books and movies though

i think making a movie out of books is usually a bad idea. you have to take out so much to make a standard hour and a half movie.

I love the Harry Potter films! They're great, i knwo that some of them go against the plot, but the films themselves are great, they have some amazing actors in them.
