I'm writing a story where there is this big war with two sides. I don't know what to make the war about. Note: The people fighting are the sorceresses werewolves wolves shades and some dragons. On the other side are elves, warriors, some wizards, humans, horses (some are pegasus and unicorns), and other dragons. PLZ HELP 10 PIONTS FOR BEST ANSWER

Land, resources, religion (beliefs) are the main reasons we go to war. There's also ego, revenge and insanity but that's usually secondary and a whole different story. Maybe combine a primary and secondary...for example, the king/president tells his people they are going to war because the werewolves (or whoever) have stolen land that was rightfully theirs but maybe, behind the scenes, there's a hidden agenda of revenge against the werewolves for killing/marrying mother or daughter... or he secretly wants to wipe out the entire race of werewolves (a la Hitler style)... or maybe he's just plain crazy and has a sick thirst for blood shed.

Good luck with your story, sounds interesting :D

You need the antagonist and defender, so it depends much on which characters you choose. Most characters don't like wars and are content with the status quo and usually warring doesn't occur unless there is some form of idealised cause and some reason to hate the other side. Now from your list of participants there are none that are particularly pacifist.

You probably better to start off with something small, almost insignificant like the recipe for vanilla ice cream. Then you have to find reason for all to be involved. Maybe you could start off with something like, the elves have the recipe make a business selling it to the humans, but there is a shortage of vanilla, so the elves ask the wizards for help, but the wizards refuse, so the elves turn to the sorceresses, who do help, but unbeknown to the elves they want the recipe, but not for ice cream but for something else which will increase their power, the dragons hear of it and tell the wizards who in turn enlist the warriors, so you have all the makings of a story, heroism, double dealing, and a bit of treachery.

I agree with the person that said resources and territory. Those are major causes of war throughout history.

Also, religion, politics, communism containment (although I don't think that would apply to your story), rivalries between races/ethnical groups, revolutions (one country wanting to break away from another OR cultural revolutions), etc.

Hope that helped :D

I was gunna say, go against human rights but then all these animals popped up :)

Since they all have different powers, one side have similiar ones, and the other side have similiar powers, but both sides oppose with each other because one side uses bad powers and other good, like the horses and wizards side could be good powers, and for humans, i don't know what power we have? But it could be something like the complexity of our minds? or summat logical

It could be that one side stole a sacred object from the other

-that they were manipulated (mentally) by your antagonist and

- that prejudice is rampant and a vigilante group attacks the other side, dragging entire country into war
