I'm looking for a new fantasy series to read, and I don't want to hear about that airheaded, overrated Twilight crap (and yeah, I already rea it).

I've read and liked:

Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
His Dark Materials

I love the Gideon Trilogy - It's about two children that get warped into the past. But in this, it really has science. It talks about how time and matter ions in the air can be contracted by an anti matter machine making theoretical time travel. Have you read the Vampire Chronicles? It's about the insight of vampires, without of the Twilight nonsensical romance. It has philosophy, angst, depression, and reveals how vampires should be portrayed as - evil. It was a very good read. Also, I don't believe this is exactly fantasy, but I would recommend the Percy Jackson series. It kind of is like Harry Potter, but it has the language of a regular teenager without the 'airheadedness'. It chronicles a teenager with his struggles though everything a kid would have - on top of being a modern demigod and also having ADHD/dyslexia. Not going to reveal much there ;] I also think that the 'So you want to be a wizard' books are fairly great, I loved them to be frank. It has a girl being bullied, then finds a book that transports her to a wizarding world. Let me think - I loved 'The Mists of Avalon' I like the whole Arthurian theme of it all. One Hundred Years of Solitude totally changed my perspective of life - you need to read this before you die. I think Inkheart was a good series - I didn't really enjoy it, but I think that most people would with your interests. You can try the Dark Towers series - I've never read them, I want to, but I haven't. But I've heard nothing but wonderful comments about them. The Icemark Chronicles was amazing - another read to read before you go blind or something

I think that's all I know, I'll edit when I think of more. :D

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede. The series consists of four novels:

1. Dealing with Dragons

2. Searching for Dragons

3. Calling on Dragons

4. Talking with Dragons

The books are fantasy, with good adventure and plenty of humor. I read the series again about every two years. I know it's a good series for young people because I was student teaching in an 8th grade class when I discovered it. Some of the students recommended it. But so far all the adults I have recommended it to have also enjoyed the novels.

Terry Goodkind has a great series. Starting with Wizards First Rule. there are 10 books in the series I believe.

The Forgotten Realms series of books is pretty vast as well. (R. A Salvatore, The Dark Elf Trilogy)

If you like comic based fantasy try The Elf Quest series

Hi, you might want to try my own recently published book, entitled "The Tales of Tanglewood: The Lon Dubh Whistle".

You can download the first three chapters for free, at http://www.talesoftanglewood.com

Within the pages of the book, readers will discover Colin, a child who is fully aware of the hidden world of myth and wonder hiding within the woods just beyond his home, long kept secret by old magic. Only the fey magic which runs through his veins has enabled Colin to find what others cannot; the Tanglewood, the 'wood within the woods.

Full of odd characters and creatures of the fey, the Tanglewood is a world of magnificent folklore come to life. As Colin begins to explore the Tanglewood, he will find friendship with the ferrish Ailfrid, the elfin girl Deidre, and Doc Muffingrow, a wise druid.

Colin will also find that there is much magic in himself, as well as dangerous enemies who will not let him find solace in the wood so easily. Ailil, King of the Sprites and ruler of The Below, has laid claim to his spirit, and Colin will need the help of his friends and quite a bit of magic to save himself.

The Tanglewood is a place like no other, and Colin is a boy like no other. Throughout his adventures, he will uncover the secret of the fey blood within him, and help dispel the poisonous corruption and hidden dangers that threaten the inhabitants of the wood and the Tanglewood itself.

I agree with the Piers Anthony suggestion. I liked his adept series (sort of sci fi) and most of Xanth and some of his Incantations of Immortality series (loved On a Pale Horse).

Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series might be a good one to check out. The series is long and extensive and not every book is great, but this was one of the first series that hooked me on the genre.

I also liked her Crystal Singer series. I think there are 3, and they are more sci fi, too.

Katherine Kurtz also has an interesting series: The Deryni, which are a magical race that are hunted and feared, but they are connected to the land. It's older (as are Anthony and McCaffrey.)

What about Stephen King's Talisman (the one he wrote with another author)? Liked that one, too.
