Check out Roger Corman's series of Poe-inspired films from the late 50's and early 60's.
They are of uneven quality at times (he is the King of B-Grade cinema, after all!), but when he nails it, he nails it good and proper.
Among these is 'The Raven', where the poem is merely a starting point for a comedy involving a duel between medieval wizards played by Vincent Price and Boris Karloff. Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson both feature prominently. It's actually funny in an extremely campy and groan-making way, although it bears scant resemblance to the source material. I'd call it a guilty pleasure!
'The Tomb of Ligeia' and 'The Fall of the House of Ussher' are both quite stylish, given their budgetary limitations, but the most amazing of his adaptations was 'The Masque of the Red Death', made in the UK for Amicus Films in 1964 - lush, colourful, lavishly-costumed and starring Vincent Price as the decadent Prince Prospero, who discovers too late that he can bar his doors against anything but Death. It incorporates the Poe story 'Hop Frog', about a court dwarf who exacts his revenge upon his tormentors.
I've put some links to the IMDB pages below. Hope this helps!
