Question:
How fussy a writer are you?

Okay, I don't really know how to ask this, but I'm gonna go for it. When it comes to writing in things like a diary or a journal, just how fussy a writer are you? Do you find yourself always trying to make your handwriting look even better than before? When writing in a book (especially a new book...oh, GOD!), don't you just hate the feeling of the centre of the book pushing your hand as you write to move the pen/pencil along the page? When writing in a thick book, don't you just hate the feeling of your hand coming off the heavy side of the book (thickest side), making it difficult to complete your final word? Do you find that you have so much to say that you need to use lots of pages & your hand gets tired after a while? Yep, you guessed it. I'm a very fussy writer.

Do you think it's okay to type the stuff you wanna say on a piece of paper, print it out & then stick it on the page of your diary, so long as you handwrite your signature to indicate you wrote the page?

I'd wager a bet that your not just fussy about writing... not that that's a bad thing. I think it's fine to be conscientious about your journals. I find that the journals with the large spirals alleviate some of those inner page difficulties you described. Because they open up fully, you have more room to maneuver your hand toward the center of the book.

I tend to not like to mix my typed and handwritten media, but that's just me. I end up rewriting typed things if I want to enter them into my handwritten journal for consistency sake. I keep most of my typed entries in a file.

So I guess maybe I'm the fussy one! lol

Kitty - Is this what you're talking about? I was intrigued...

Haha. You're funny. But I know what you mean. The sad thing is: I've just quit handwriting things unless I have to for school. Just as you say, my handwriting is usually messy, I can never read my brilliant thoughts or recount what I was thinking at the time I wrote something, I always write too small, I can only use one notepad for one story (I can't just be schizophrenic and write different stories in the SAME writing pad, you know) so I always feel guilty that I'm wasting paper and whenever I need to look up something, I go straight to the computer and if I don't have the writing pad that I was writing my story in, I'll start typing it on the computer and then the story just becomes detached and I'll just move on to a new project and forget this handwritten one.

NO! I have made my decision and have stuck with the computer. That way, everything is neat and organized, there is no limit nor maximum of paper I'm using, I can write as fast as I please (almost as fast as my thoughts go). Yes, it makes me content.

Although, diaries... My parents always wanted me to start one, but ever since I did start one, it was things as you said that made me fussy. I once started a folder on my computer entitled "diary", but it just didn't work out. I think it might work for you, though, as long as you keep it up. Make it a special font or something. I heard there's a system on the computer that lets you make your handwriting the font (it might cost a bit, though, but for your sake, I hope you get it).

Hope your writing goes smoothly.

Great question. One of the instructors at the Sun workshop turned me on to National Brand's Chemisry Notebooks, Item No. 43-581. If you google it, you can buy it. It's a hardcover book, college-ruled, with greenish-yellow pages, each numbered, total of 120 pages. It lies flat and is an excellent writing book. I immediately ordered five. They are also thin so great for traveling (I'm nearly always on the road). Enjoy. You are not alone in your pursuit of perfect handwriting in a journal that you can live with.

I am anal with my handwriting (as my high school English teacher told me). It annoys the crap out of me when things look messy, especially in a journal or diary. Now when I write things, I use the computer. But I hate writing notes in my college classes because I'm forced to be messy to get all the notes down fast enough. It drives me insane when I have to go back and study them.

i am exactly like you, i don't like bending books backwards or anything. i found a new nice handwriting. i write with a fountain pen which has a thin nip, and it slants to the left.

believe me you don't know how much i am like you.

i think it looks better handwriten though you could try when you find you hand coming of the end of the page get anothothe book the same width and put it next to to level it out.

but if you don't want to do that just sign at the end of your writing.

i found this motto and have lived by it ' perfect is almost good enough'

i am a perfectionist!

I'm fussy about my thoughts and the way I express them, but my handwriting is so hopeless that I gave up trying to perfect it many years ago. I can pretend that it's only a matter of being left-handed, but the truth is that my fine motor coordination could be much better.

So long as you express yourself truthfully or artistically, I don't see any problem with the typeface or technology you use to do so.

Since you are talking about diary writing, be as fussy as you want about appearance. Remember, though, that CONTENT matters more.

It's perfectly ok to type your diary. Never knew you had to sign entries. Many people keep their journals on their computer now because they can put passwords on, hide it from nosy siblings, etc.

I am always frustrated with the way my handwriting looks. Now that I have my own laptop, I am looking forward to being able to type more. I will still write things down every now and again though.

Since I do type everything I write about and I keep some notes here and there. I also keep a recorder by my side which is very helpful.
