Question:
Uncorrected Proof Book?
dontask.

I purchased a book off Amazon, just an average book I felt like reading and I brought it from sellers that were selling second hand books. It is the début novel of this author (First and only... so far)

When I received it I noticed on the front cover that there is a statement at the top reading 'Uncorrected Proof: Not For Resale or Quotation'. also on the back there is a section at the bottom with the measurements of the book, the amount of pages, the price, the ISBN, the age it is meant for and the date. There is also a bit that reads 'For More Information On Marketing and PR, Please Contact: (Then a list of contact info for Publicity Manager and Senior Marketing Manager).

Can someone please tell me what this even is, if I'm meant to have it (Surely it must be illegal to sell it through Amazon and not stating it is this particular state) and do you think I perhaps have it by accident?!

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You.

(P.s sorry for posting this question again, I just want to see if any one else can ask!)

It's called an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy). Publishers give them out for free to help promote a book before the book is published. It should also have a publishing date somewhere on the book. I get them all the time from publishers.

& I agree, the seller should have told you this was an ARC. I wouldn't pay for an arc. They're not real books you can ever sell, for instance, if you want to sell it to a used bookstore or donate it to the library.

The first two answers are correct in identifying the type of book you have been sold. You could try and get a refund as you weren't informed of the exact nature of the product you were being sold. On the other hand, if it is readable and you are happy with it in all other respects, then you may not want to bother. I don't think you will get into any trouble by having purchased it so you don't need to worry about that. Also, if the author becomes famous you will probably find it is worth rather a lot of money!

this is probable the latter. stepped forward uncorrected proofs potential that the e book grow to be typeset and produced from a copyedited manuscript, however the author and writer have not reviewed it yet to verify there are no typesetting or production errors. If it seems to be a properly-liked e book, it may be well worth something sometime (i.e. i'm specific the uncorrected proofs of Harry Potter are well worth plenty), yet usually, a information reproduction isn't notably uncommon or useful.

It is an ARC (Advanced readers copy). Publishers send them out to reviewers before the book is available to the public. You probably have it by accident. If you bought it directly through Amazon, you should contact them. If you got it used, you should contact the seller. I have no idea why that happened!
