i thought you cant apparate into or out of a fidelius charm.
if thats the case, how come in deathly hallows page 185 "he (harry) had nearly lost his balance as he apparated on to the top step just outside the front door" (of grimmauld place)
im confused?? because surely the fidelius charm would have been cast over the stairs as well so the stairs couldnt be seen??? help please??

If you are a secret keeper, then yes, you can.

There is nothing that states that you can't Apparate to/from somewhere that is protected by the Fidelius Charm....They may have put extra protections besides the Fidelius Charm on Grimmauld Place when the Order was using it as a hideout....that may have included not being able to Apparate/Disapparate from or to it. Like at Hogwarts, you can't Apparate/Disapprate but it is not under the Fidelius Charm. So I think they had to Apparate to the step because they couldn't do it INSIDE the house and they wanted to be close enough so that the Fidelius Charm still hid them.

Harry knew that the house was there, so he could come and go from it as he pleased. However, if somebody hadn't known it was there they would have just apparated between the two houses that were visible, instead.
