17 Year Old Looking for good books to read?
2010-07-04 20:58:42 UTC
Since it's summer vacation I have way more free time an need some recommendations for books to read. Books I have read recently include Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathon Safran Foer, all of John Green's books, The Number Devil. Other books I enjoy are Dan Browns books (I've read all of them), A Wrinkle in Time, Sophie's World, The Wind Singer series, loved Harry Potter, thought Twilight was all right.

I love intellectual books, but enjoy a fun read as well so I'm expecting a range of suggestions haha. But thank you for the help!

The Hunger Games series and the Percy Jackson series are both easy and fun reads.

I love Michael Crichton books. My favorites are Prey and State of Fear. Both are exciting reads as well as quite educational. I've also enjoyed Orson Scott Card's Ender series. Ender's Game is a a great book, but Ender's Shadow is even better. You have to read Ender's Game before you read Ender's Shadow. There are two series. The Ender series: Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind. Then there's the Shadow Series: Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, and Shadow of the Giant. Also, Sherlock Holmes short stories are GREAT! Be sure to read the original shorts by Arthur Conan Doyle, not any stories written by other people later on.

If you want something even more intellectual, I recommend The Words We Live By. It's a great breakdown of the US constitution. I also recommend Physics for Future Presidents. That book explains the basic physics behind common news headlines. I'd also recommend Naked Economics. This book presents the basic principles of economics in a very down-to-earth fashion.

Hope one of these books strikes your fancy.
