She won't read anything with a lot of sex, sorrow, or violence. She loves the uplifting classics, cozy mysteries, kids' books(but no Harry Potter), and true stories that aren't too depressing.
It's hard finding books for an 82 year old.

Try these cozy mystery authors:
Anne George
M.C. Beaton Agatha Raisin series
Caroline Hart Death on Demand series
They all write cute murder mysteries without all the blood, gore, sex, and swearing. My 90 year old mother loves them all. She also likes historical fiction such as Dana Fuller Ross. And I'll assume she's read the Little House series, however, there's a new one being published she might like.

I'm usually the opposite of "cozy mysteries."
However, Mary Higgins Clark (though she does have some violence here and there) has some "cozy mysteries". She's not extreme, and can be quite fun. The basic plots of her books: "a murder happens at the beginning, main character is somehow innocently involved, climax, happy ending." Usually her Christmas books have an uplifting story to them, as well.
If she has a intimacy scene, it's just a kiss shared between the characters. Something small like that.
Hope this helps some!

There is a series by Alexander McCall Smith called "The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency". I believe there are 7 books so far - they are very popular within book clubs. They are set in Africa and revolve around a woman named Precious Ramotswe who decides to open a detective agency. While they are technical mysteries, there aren't any serious conflicts - they are very enjoyable to read. He also has a series called "The Sunday Philosophy Club" and one called "44 Scotland Street" that are kind of along the same lines as "Ladies Detective..." but just set in different areas.

My gran loves the Maeve Binchy novels especially 'Tara Road' anything by Ruth Rendell who's a great mystery writer and I think she likes novels by Germaine Greer as well, or that could be my mum but worth checking out nonetheless. Anyway, Maeve Binchy is a must for the older readers...

Have you tried Jan Karon's books, the Mitford Series? My grandmother LOVES those.
Good luck to you and grandma :)
