Polyjuice potion turns you into whichever person you want to become, as long as you can add a strand of their hair to the potion. What you're referring to, when she accidentally turned herself into a cat, was the first time she ever made polyjuice and she accidentally pulled a cat hair off of the person she wanted to become instead of that person. In Deathly Hallows, she successfully changes herself a couple of times, into Harry Potter, and into Belltrix Lestrange.

She gets a cat hair stuck in her polyjuice, and the potion does not work for trans-species changes. You can use a hair from any human being to transform into them for a short period of time. That is why she was able to transform into Harry, but not a Slytherin because she picked the wrong hair.
I don't do this for a living. I have a life, I swear. :-)

In the Harry Potter books polyjuice potion can transform anyone into any other person. The final ingredient in this potion is a piece of the person (like a piece of hair) that the potion-taker will transform into. In Chamber of Secrets Hermione accidently put cat hair in the potion, so she transformed into a cat. In the other books, she transformed into other people based on who's hair she put in the potion.

When you use polyjuice potion you will turn into whatever is in the potion...for example if you want to turn into Harry you should put a piece of his hair in the potion. She turned into a creature before because a piece of cat hair fell in the potion she drank.

If you're asking why the potion didn't work right for her in "Chamber," it's because the hair she took from the sweater of the girl she intended to change into was that of a cat, not the girl. The potion is not intended to transform people into other species.

Did you read the book? Did you see the movie? The answer is in there! You can't use polyjuice potion to turn into an animal, and the hair she pulled off of Milicent Bullstrodes robes was cat hair!

its' because the hair that she put in the potion in Chamber of secrets was cat hair, she thought it was the slytherin girls hair.

The hair she hought was Millicent's was actually her cat's hair!
