Neither. It's in the Religion section.

non fiction. It is considered a reference book, or a religious book.
For those that are splitting hairs: If the call number (the number on the spine telling the library ppl where to put it) has all letters, it's fiction. If it has numbers and letters, the letters being the first 2 or 3 of the author's last name, it is non-fiction. The Dewey Decimal system is for non-fiction books ONLY. Then the system is broken down into categories - religion, reference, biology, etc.

In a library, Bibles (and other religious books) are shelved with the non-fiction. If the library uses the Dewey Decimal System, they'll be in the 200s; if they use the Library of Congress system, BL through BX.

Well, the religious section is under the non-fiction section, with all those numbers.
It is a non-fiction, after all.

The library's organizational system is much more complicated than simply "fiction" or "non-fiction". In the Dewey Decimal System, the 200s are the religion books (original texts, commentaries, religious philosophy, etc).
Learn a little about how the library is organized:

This question is as old as the bible, or libraries (whichever you believe came first). I have seen it her numerous times. Each time it make me pause and say "ha ha - this joke should be used on The Last Comics Standing to get the crickets going so I can watch Alonzo roll his eyes." in my head.
If you truly want to be able to debate the question read this book:

It's in the non-fiction section. Religious section. All religious stuff (or books about not believing) is there, so whether you 'believe' or not, you won't get offended. :)

Religion has its own section. While the Bible gets no special status, it is filed with other religious texts.

Interesting question. I think there is a separate section for religious texts, which is probably considered nonfiction.

Reference section. Could also be religion or philosophy sub-sections..
