Ok, so I am a 16 year-old girl, and I absolutely love reading. I want to get your suggestions on books to read.
Books that I have read:
Twilight Saga
The Lovely Bones
And Then There Were None
Dear John
Pretty Little Liars series

I like books mystery books a lot, books set in different time periods, books dealing with murder, rape, etc, romance, etc. Please, do not recommend any vampire books! And, please give a short description so I no what the book is about.

Nokosee: Rise of the New Seminole by Micco Mann. It has the defiant voice of a 17 year old girl who manages to overcome everything thrown at her in the course of the novel which is a lot-- and she does it in a way that would make all girls proud-- not in a superhuman way or through the assistance of some heroic act of a man but via her own means.

Cherry by Mary Karr. A memoir about teens, sex, drugs and growing up in rural Texas as told through the gritty, beautiful prose of one of America's best writers. It's a book every teen girl should read. If the opening paragraph doesn't do it for you, nothing will (you can read it on the Amazon link below).

The Liar's Club by Mary Karr. Another moving memoir recounting her earlier years (you should probably read this one first and then Cherry).

Think of this as Greek mythology lite (less gods, more filling): The King Must Die by Mary Renault. Set in ancient Greece it follows Theseus on a journey of discovery while painting a vivid picture of the times. Loved the descriptions of young uninhibited Greeks running buck naked up hills and through forests and making love among the flowers. The scenes of naked teens jumping bulls with back flips cries out for a cinematic interpretation. Ms. Renault's written a series of historical novels set in this period and all of them are so worthy.

Since you (unfortunately) like the Twilight saga, you might also like the Mortal Instruments Trilogy by Cassandra Clare. It has similar elements, but I find the writing to be much better.

Also, since you list "And Then There Were None" on your list, why don't you read some of Agatha Christie's other books. She has been called the most well read and known mystery writer on this planet. However, I find her other work to be a little different than "And Then There Were None", and they usually follow one of two detectives, Hercule Pierrot or Miss Maple. I would read "Murder on the Orient Express" or "Death on the Nile", both of which involve Hercule as the detective.

Also, you can see what else some of the writers of your favorite books have written. Some things might not be as well known as others, so I would see if you like their earlier work or less talked about work.

I know some of these will have already been said but these are a few of my suggestions…

Harry Potter – There’s a good chance you've read these but on the slight chance you haven't, even at 16, they are still amazing books.

The Host by Stephanie Meyer - If you liked Twilight you will definitely like The Host (again if you haven't already read it). It’s by the same author but it is not a vampire book, its actually science fiction. It has the same classic love triangle's that Meyer loves but there is an extra spin on it. Its about a girl who survived after an alien species has taken over the earth, they implant themselves in peoples bodies and take over their lives. The main character is actually someone who's been implanted but the alien is living with the girl and they end up working together to escape and find the man that the girl loved before she was taken. It is science fiction but DEFINITELY still romance. (Sorry for the crappy summary, I haven't read the book for a few years.)

Cathy's Book & Cathy's Key by Stewart, Weisman, Brigg - These books are alot of fun. The have a lot of mystery to them and they deal with a supernatural element. The book itself isn't incredibly intense but it is interactive, through the book there’s numbers you can call and websites to go to to figure out parts of the mystery. Also the books come with a packet of clues and drawings that Cathy collects through the book. It’s a quick read but still very entertaining.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray - This one is set in the Victorian era and it is about a girl Gemma Doyle who is sent away to a grooming academy in London. Again this one contains a supernatural element. This one is a series (followed by "Rebel Angels") and throughout the books Gemma learns that there is a dark past to the school and it is related to her mother. She learns that she has certain powers to go to another world where she can make anything happen but this world has a dark side. (again sorry for the crappy summary, I'm horrid at summaries and I haven't read these books in quite a while.)

I hope this is some of what you are looking for, good luck!!!

you should definately try Poseur, the clique, and the ashleys

the ashleys: 3 teen girls who rule their school and are suddenly threatened by a new richy rich girl who wants to become one of them to take them down

the clique: pretty much the same as the ashleys nut these girls are definately a lot meaner, there are a lot more books in this series

poseur: 4 high school girls from completely different worlds come together to create a new high fashion label for their school

i know lots of these don't really fit your decription that you offered, but i've read almost all of the books that you listed as "already read" and i loved these ones!

p.s. i <3 <3 <3 pretty little liars

p.p.s. you might alsowant to try gossip girl or the a-list (i haven't read these but they seem good)

p.p.p.s. didn't you love how the last pll book was such a cliff hanger?

Read all of Eva Ibbotson's books, they are amazing and beautifully written! There's about 7 or so in all, Journey to the River Sea, The Star of Kazan, Songs for Summer, The Secret Countess, The Morning Gift, Magic Flutes and others which I forget... They are all about youngish girls going to new places and finding love etc, but they are all really wonderful!

You sound like a typical sixteen-year-old girl, reading Twilight and the recently-famous Nicholas Sparks books. Try The Martian Chronicles or Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury for something more refreshing and thought-provoking.

well. I'M a teenage girl and I like the Discworld series, but that's because i'm pretty (if i do say so myself) mature for my age... i particularly like "Going Postal". it's about a charming con man turned government employee (think White Collar) at the failing post office. the characters are unique, and the plot is funny and not at all cliche. it's the kind of book i can re-read over and over. i really recommend the audiobook, though. the guy who does the voices is GREAT!

Hey! I'm also 16 so hopefully I can help you out a bit... These are all some of my favorite books of all time... My descriptions are from Borders.com because I'm not very good at describing books.

Gone- by Michael Grant (series)

* In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE. Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents--unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers--that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...

*Book 2- Hunger

*Book 3(out in May)- Lies

Two-Way Street- Lauren Barnholdt

*This is Jordan and Courtney, totally in love. Sure, they were an unlikely high school couple. But they clicked; it worked. They're even going to the same college, and driving cross-country together for orientation. Then Jordan dumps Courtney -- for a girl he met on the Internet. It's too late to change plans, so the road trip is on. Courtney's heartbroken, but figures she can tough it out for a few days. "La la la" -- this is Courtney pretending not to care. But in a strange twist, Jordan cares. A lot. Turns out, he's got a secret or two that he's not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can't get back together, and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other.

I'd Tell You I Love You but Then I'd Have to Kill You- Ally Carter (series)

*Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school'that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies. Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real 'pavement artist''but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her? Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she's on her most dangerous mission'falling in love.

*Book 2- Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy

*Book 3- Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover

*Book 4(out in June)- Only the Good Spy Young

Shadowland- Meg Cabot (series)

*Suze is a mediator -- a liaison between the living and the dead. In other words, she sees dead people. And they won't leave her alone until she helps them resolve their unfinished business with the living. But Jesse, the hot ghost haunting her bedroom, doesn't seem to need her help. Which is a relief, because Suze has just moved to sunny California and plans to start fresh, with trips to the mall instead of the cemetery, and surfing instead of spectral visitations. But the very first day at her new school, Suze realizes it's not that easy. There's a ghost with revenge on her mind . . . and Suze happens to be in the way.

*Book 2- Ninth Key

*Book 3- Reunion

*Book 4- Darkest Hour

*Book 5- Haunted

*Book 6- Twilight

The Only Alien on the Planet- Kristen D. Randle

*New town, new school, new friends. It was difficult for Ginny at first, but her senior year is finally starting to feel kind of normal. That is, until she sees him—the beautiful mystery in her English class. He has never spoken a word to anyone. He moves through each day at school without making eye contact. His name is Smitty Tibbs, but everyone calls him the Alien. Ginny is convinced there's more to the Alien than his muted exterior. But as she attempts to break into his safe and emotionless world, she realizes her efforts might be causing more harm than good. Has she gone too far, or not far enough?

Eragon- Christopher Paolini (series)

*Fifteen-year-old Eragon believes that he is merely a poor farm boy--until his destiny as a Dragon Rider is revealed. Gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power.
