Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. Kendra Sorenson is really the main character. She is fairykind, so she probably doesn't fit into what you seek. But she doesn't need a guy to be strong. However, the use of profanity in reference to strong females is really degrading, you know. Asking for a young adult book and mixing profanity in the question doesn't help answerers. There are a smattering of young adult books which do use profanity, but those are the ones where profanity is necessary to understanding the characters. Like the A-List series by Zoey Dean, which does not fit in with what you are looking for. Which is why you should refrain from using profanity in your question, because the only books which utilize profanity and fall into the young adult section are books where girls need boys in their lives and have all kinds of break-up/getting back together/cheating, etc. relationships. That's why you're best off with Fablehaven. I suppose you might try Inkheart. Do NOT, however, try Diane Duane's series about a girl wizard. It is not fun at all.

I easily got for free Broken Sword Return of the Templars here: http://bitly.com/1ub1B3v

no surveys, no scams, just the full game!

Despite being an unofficial version, Broken Sword: The Return of the Templars got enough notoriety among the fans of the series, to the extent that their legal creators gave their full support.
