Question:
I need a twist for my short story!?

Note: This story is copyrighted, and anyone who copies, forges, or, in any way deemed by the author, breaks said copyright will be sued.

Setting:

It's basically a world where everyone is kept in Captivity until they turn fifteen. When they turn fifteen, they recieve an operation to turn them into a Hybrid - a half-human, half-animal-of-their-choice being. They are then released into the Wild, where, after mandatory Training to get used to their new body, they can live their lives, climbing mountains and cliff diving and the like.

Summary:

This girl, Jane, just turned fifteen. The Hybrid that she chose was a chameleon.

That's basically all I've got so far.

I desperately need a plot twist so that I can forshadow it throughout the beginnings of the story. Also, please keep in mind that this is a short story, so it can't be a twist that takes too long to work up to.

Thank you!

While in captivity she overhears 2 guards talking about a weakness in the governments capital where only someone invisible could get through and then after release she attempts to get in. She later finds out that everyone who is in captivity and altered are being held by a rebellion (that tell the people in captivity they are the government)

They then send guards in to watch the people and the guards will 'accidently' talk to each other about the governments weakness' too loud. They talk about the weakness' around people who they think will be useful. e.g. about a spy sneak mission to someone who will be a hybrid of an animal that can sneak around like a chameleon. Or if they need brute force they might talk about a supply camp that could be destroyed near a person who might be a hybrid to a strong animal like a bear.

She then finds out the government is trying to stop the mutations of people and are actually good.

Hm . . . some ideas:

- the government is planning to use the hybrids for their own benefit (maybe the government know that a war is coming soon, or something of that sort)

- Jane and some other person got mixed up so Jane is now a [whatever the other person chose] and the other person is now a chameleon

- The government is actually killing people and sending off hybrid-clones; the dead humans help . . . lets say, protect the government from this monster thing -_-

Hope you like it! :D

I smiled when I read this was copyrighted and you'd sue people :)

You've given us a setting and a very vague character, not a story.

Perhaps the girl goes back and releases the other kids? Only to find out out that there was a very good reason the kids were kept captive (they might be prone to a virus or maybe there is something that likes to eat children, who knows).

Hiya! It is satisfactory to peer style in the authors whose pieces you may have already learn. I am keen on Roald Dahl and if you have not read his Uncle Oswald pieces I endorse you get preserve of them. That said, the writer of essentially the most beautifully twisted story i have ever read is a bit-known American named Aidan Chambers. It is referred to as The Kissing game and you will see it in an anthology named 'Love All'. Relatively, go to the trouble. It's a chilling tale with a twist that greatly surprised me once I first learn it and nonetheless amazes me each time I decide on the story up off my shelf.

That's a cool idea! I think a good twist could be that Jane's operation got mixed up with some special person's and she got extra chameleon powers(I don't know what else to call it) and the operators find out about the mistake and try to find her to change her back to normal but she uses her chameleon powers to hide herself.

There is no releasing or hybrids. Its a myth like Tooth Fairy enforced which symbolizes a coming of age introduction to wild society

She can be seen by others, her powers dont work so she has to travel on a long journey to get a herb to fix the chemical in her body to produce the camoflague

Her body begins shrinking to the size of a Chameleon... she contracts cancer... her tongue is super long... she eats flies... she has no one to mate with... she is stepped on... she is knifed... she falls off a cliff...
