yes, there are some nice things they can do with movies, but on the whole i can't recall anyone ever saying that a film was better than the book.
can anyone give examples to disprove this?

I think that books are always better because you can imagine how characters look like, what is the scenery - you can just feel it. In movies you have everything ready and there is no place for own imagination. But there is a movie - for me - that is better than a book - "Dead poets society" - but it's probable because the book appeared after the movie.

Well, I believe it depends on who you ask. I saw Gone with the Wind before I read the book and I am so glad I did because I was able to picture each character to the fullest. I read the sequal as well and was able to picture even those characters. Now, in the long run the books were much better than the movie but only because there were so many more details to offer.

Now, there is The Notebook which I loved the book, but I also loved the movie a tad bit more. Seeing is believing. Characters come more realistic when you watch the movies, but the majority of the time the books offer more details which complete the story more. So for me, I prefer the combination. There have been disappointments where the movie just didnt do justice though.

Movies are not "better" than books, but they complement them. Most new movies and movies that will come in the near future are based on stories written in books.

Movies have special effects which would capture the viewer, but not everything you read in print can be successfully represented via movies. At least not yet.

What I talk about is the "between the lines" parts of the book, where the narrator says what some character is thinking, or some facts about the story that cannot be successfully delivered in a movie without making it become lame and poor.

I (like a lot of people) cant get into books in the same wat that you can. I get bored & put it down & never read it again. Its not because the story is boring - its because Im not much of a reader.

I did read some Tom Sharpe books, Wilt in particular & I laughed so hard that my face hurt! I saw the film of it years ago & couldnt remember anything about it.

It may be true in some cases but I much prefer films. Films & books have their own personalities.

i dont have solid examples but honestly some books define personalities and looks of characters in a certainly satisfying and predictable manner.

so i think somehow in that area movies do a better job, they bring out the unexpected...ok like harry potter for example, the movies were definately not as detailed but then again it was more exiting watching things that you imagined come to screen, not as u expected but in a manner that made more sense.like "wormtail".

There are a few movies that are equal to the books (Fried Green Tomatoes, The Color Purple and Rabbit Proof Fence) but I've yet to see on that is better.

I generally agree with you - except in the case of Stephen King. I think most of the the films they've made from his stories have been better than the books.

it's pretty hard to disagree with you, cause films never follow the plot in the book or at all like the book..e.g. in the new harry potter movie coming out, where the heck does voldemort come into the train station in the movie when in the book thats not how it happened? and this happens to alot of other book-to-movie films

The Little Mermaid (Disney film) has some enchanting characters, heart-warming plot, great songs and brings all the magic a fairy tale is supposed to give.

However the so-called orginal "fairytale" is dull, quet and tragic, and doesn't really create the magic and comfort the movie does.

to try this we would could upload the Quidditch adventure that Ginny wins as Seeker, to try this we would could upload the area the place Harry unearths Ginny as a exchange for him while he gets detention, to try this we would could upload the area the place Harry gets detention, to try this the action picture could be an added freaking hour long edit: i think they might upload the Snape betrayal factor to the 8th action picture, in the time of the Prince's tale area, yet HOW are they going to examine the thank you to Apparate now? they might't quite study the thank you to in the time of the DH... they might desire to have extra that, it is so substantial. How else are they going to flee from dying Eaters o.o Oh yeah i needed to throw my shoe on the demonstrate while Bellatrix grew to become into putting the Burrow on hearth. in case you haven't any longer be conscious, Harry and all people is going lower back to the Burrow in DH, they might't quite circulate lower back there if it quite is i do no longer understand all burned up...

The latest Titanic movie was true art. I do not think any books on the subject or the movies that came before it on the Titanic accomplished this.

hmmm....well, i think that the godfather was much better than the book. andrew lloyd webber's phantom of the opera (stage and silver screen) was better than the book. it's an excellent story, but the book isn't well written.
