Ask an auctioneer/valuer but make it plain you are not selling. Say it is for insurance purposes as you are wondering if it should be a named item on the policy. Valuable items are usually named on policies, different insurance companies have different levels of value for items that are named. Well known signed first editions are usually fairly valuable depending on who the author is and it is the author's signature.

Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) I love it when I find a good series. This book may be a bit darker than I'd let my boys read right now, but for the teen crowd is appropriate. I love the characters and am rooting for them every step of the way. The book is impossible to put down and I hate that I have to wait a couple weeks for the next one to come out.

That would depend on whose signature is in it.

A marked book is usually worth less.

That signature would have to be authenticated somehow. And you wouldn't know how much the book was worth until someone made you an offer. And since you don't want to sell it, what does it matter?

Not much maybe in a couple of years it will be worth more
