mob mentality within the book, is when atticus mentions to scout that although the men within the mob are usually good folk, they've let their judgement and other's views cloud their decisions. I.e. they haven't thought for themselves, instead followed like sheep. This is portrayed by Mr Cunningham, usually an upright citizen, he became obsessed with the mob and punishing tom. Until scout uses her innocence to make him feel ashamed for his actions and his presence, and so he breaks up the mob.

Mayella's account shows lapses, where her father had lied smoothly. Tom mentions that she said 'what her daddy do to her doesn't count', She also literally tells Atticus that Bob beats her daily.

Mob mentality is thinking the same and acting in uniform with each other. This is seen when the Cunninghams and others camp out of Tom Robinson's cell and threaten Atticus. However, the mob then break up as Scout shows her innocence and they realize that they are acting out of the norm. Mayella's version of the rape is disjointed and you can tell she is making stuff up on the spot. Bob Ewell lies smoothly the whole time.

Mob mentality- meaning, a collective group of people think , do and act the same. they normally act out things (actions) etc within a group than individually.
