I'm looking for some fantasy books that aren't children's books...books that have mythical creatures (fairies, centaurs, goblins, etc), or wizards, or anything of that sort. Just anything fantasy. It could also be a young adult book (I'm 19). So what would you suggest? Oh and, please don't suggest Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. :)

I read Juliet Marillier - "Sevenwaters Trilogy" and loved all three of the books in the trilogy..It was an amazing good read..

Book 1 - Daughter of the Forest

Book 2 - Son of the Shadows

Book 3 - Child of the Prophecy

If you love Fantasy Books.. you have to read these three in The Sevenwaters Trilogy.

I, also was looking for some Fantasy read when I picked up these three books at a local bookstore, bought them all on the same day and could not put them down the whole time I was reading them...If you want a good Fantasy read, you are going to enjoy these three.

I have added for you in here, some reviews when the books first came out.. I am hoping you will pick these 3 books to enjoy. Happy Reading!

Winner of the 2000 Aurealis Award, the 2001 Alex Award from the American Library Association, and the 2001 Voya Award for the best Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror title.

"A rousing page-turner, a heady blending of romance, magic, and battle...readers of all three volumes will sigh with pleasure, but also with regret at bidding Marillier's perfectly realized world adieu."

- Booklist (starred review)

"This novel will delight and astound. An exceptional debut fairy tale that mixes romance, legend, and magic."

-Realms of Fantasy

"Julit Marillier is among the most skilled of fantasy writers. The Sevenwaters Trilogy is so beautiful, and so magically woven, that it deserves to become a Fantasy Classic. This Trilogy should be a "must have" for any fantasy reader."

- Sara Douglass, author of 'The Wayfarer Redemption and the "Troy Game' series.

"A world rich with magic and legend, full of heroic - and a few decidedly nasty - characters. Lush, poetic, and surprisingly romantic"

-Romantic Times

"Ever wondered what happens next in your favorite Fantasy Tale? Australian new voice Juliet Marillier provides a beautifully wroung answer...The exquisite poetry of the story is carefully balanced with strong characterizations and more than a not to Irish mythology."

-Romantic Times (Gold Top Pick)

"Sorcha (our Heroine) takes her place in the very front line of the strong, determined Irish heroines, from Queen Maeve to Molly Bloom and beyond!"

-best-selling author Andrew M. Greeley

"I enjoyed it immensely...For an Irish resident, familiar with the mores and customes, Daughters of the Forest had a special meaning and relevance. Juliet Marillier is a fine new fantasy writer."

-author Anne McCaffrey

"Marillier blends old legends with original storytelling to produce and epic fantasy."

-Library Journal

"A quietly moving and extremely well written fantasy."

- Science Fiction Chronicle

"Ms Mariller's ability to use so well such a known legend and make it both logical and exciting is an outstanding gift. I am now, of course eager to see 'what happens next' and that interest is what every writer hopes to arouse in the reader of a trilogy".

-Author Andre Norton

"What sets Marillier's work apart is how she wraps this traditional plot with deeply individualized characters and a beautifully realized background of Ireland in the Dark Ages - Marillier is a new writer to watch."

-Voya

"The story line is fast-paced, filled with action, and loaded with romance yet brimming with magical elements that seem real.. The lead characters are warm, compassionate, and share a sense of family loyalty that adds to the adventure."

Have you read The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud? It's fantasy, geared more for adults than children. It's about a magician's apprentice that summons a djini to steal something from someone who humiliated him in the past. It's well-written, exciting and horribly witty. The three books are The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye, and Ptolemy's Gate.

A good young adult writer is John Green. My favourite book of is Looking for Alaska. It's about a teenage boy who, tired of his monotonous life, decides to go to an academy to "seek the Great Perhaps". It's wonderfully realistic, and very thought-provoking.

Check out the writers Freda Warrington, Robin Hobb, Raymond E Feist, David Eddings and if you want something a little on the funny side try some Terry Pratchett. All of these people write wonderful fantasy. I would definatly reccomend a set of books called The Belgariad by David Eddings.

dark lover by j.r. ward ( The blackdagger brotherhood Series)

it's different to all the other vampire book, it is a adult romance as it has lots descriptive scenes, do dismiss it, it's got a great storyline and never gets boring"

"In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood but fate brings beth into his life as he must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead.."

Any book by Terry Pratchett and the Discworld are great to read.

They have an adult wit that's sometimes hilarious, and sometimes a bit corny.

I think it's one of the best series of books I've read this year.

I'm not a big fantasy reader, but both my kids (young adults) read it, along with a lot of other fiction.

The authors they like most are Robert Jordan, David Eddings, George R.R. Martin (whose Song of Ice and Fire series I read and really liked, enough to buy it in hardcover), and Tad Williams (whose Otherland series I read, too).
