No, she is never named. It was a great literary device, because the main girl did not have a name, where Rebecca, who wasn't even a character, did have a name. It really helped with the feeling of being in Rebecca's shadow.

I would guess that she was fairly young, as she refers to herself as a schoolgirl who has not experienced much of life. So I would guess between the ages of 20-25, as she has been working as a companion and is not in school, nor has she been for a while.

The story is written in the first person so you never find out her name. And, as far as I can remember, not her age either. A sequel? Not that I've ever heard of, but there are at least two different movies, one made in 1939 and the other within the last 10 years or so.

If you haven't read the complete book yet, you need to do so. It's a classic and a beautiful love story AND a muder mystery. It's one of my favorites and the opening line, Last night I dreamed I went to Manderly again was in one of the categories called "Opening Lines" on Jeopardy a few years back.

Enjoy!

I am currently reading the book and I too noticed that she is just referred to as Mrs. Maxim DeWinter. Even in the Hitchcock movie Rebecca, based on the Du Maurier book, the 2nd Mrs. DeWinter is not mentioned by name. She is merely listed as the 2nd Mrs. DeWinter. So I don't think she is ever named. As to her age, I don't know, I haven't figured that out either.

The author never gives her a name or says her age, although it's young because she is jokingly ordered to never be 35 and wear black and pearls (or something like that) when they are in Italy driving.
