Question:
What's a good book for teens?
2012-08-09 14:34:46 UTC
My birthday is coming up and I'm a book worm but I don't know what to get to read. I'm almost fourteen and I love fantasy books.
Also, I've already read Twilight, Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, so anything related to that would be awesome! :)

I know it will sound completely generic, and will probably bore you because of the attention its gotten lately. But keep reading because i will suggest other books too. The Hunger Games by Susan Collins are simply fantastic books! Don't just think i'm one of those saddos who got into them because i saw the movie, i'm not. I read the hunger games the year before there was even talk of a movie. I'm pretty sure you'll know all about them already, so i wont summarise. They really are great great books! Other books you may enjoy:

Shade's Children by Garth Nix, one of my two all time favourites! Its about a world where every one over (if i can remember correctly) 15 vanishes. The world is left with out adults, and with children now gaining weird new abilities. The book focuses on a kid called "Gold-Eye" named so for his golden eyes. He cant remember his real name, but his weird new gold eyes give him the ability to see into the future. He escapes from a place (not going to spoil it) where many children and teenagers are being held by mysterious new arrivals to earth (their not "exactly" aliens). He is found and saved by a group of teens who take him back to a submarine, other survivors are living in the submarine. Carrying out missions, and being run by a hologram called Shade. Sadly no sequels or series to this book, its just a stand-alone one. But still, an amazing, worth while read!

Mortal Engines By Phillip Reeve, my other all time favourite. Mortal Engines is about a boy named tom who lives in a future (and steampunk'ish) world full of moving cities (much like the castle from howls moving castle, if you have seen it). He's pretty low in london (the city he lives in) though, and works in a museum. The huge moving cities, eat other, smaller, towns and cities like animals. Recycling their parts and reusing them. One day there is a chase after a town, and the city gathers on viewing platforms designed so they can see chases. Tom isn't supposed to leave the museum, because he has to work, but he goes anyway. He gets caught and is sent to work in the guts of the city as punishment. Whilst there, he see's the prisoners from the "eaten" town. There is one girl he encounters who has a horribly distorted face. Then in a sudden happening of events, he finds himself "falling" out of the city with the girl. Basically, it follows them out on the wastelands (i think thats what their called, its been a while since i last read the book...). Tom slowly discovers more about Hester, the girl he has found himself with, and how she came too look like she does. This book is the first one of a large series, but it can be read by itself too, as it is the best of them. In my opinion all of them are good, and i believe more in the same world are coming out. Might have to check that fact though as it could be wrong...

If your looking for a more twilighty sort of book, go for a book called Shiver (i forgot who its by, sorry). I'ts the one i am reading currently. Shiver, is written MUCH better than twilight, and its about werewolves...whats not to love? (Sorry, i have an obsession with werewolves...<3 ). Its from the perspective of a girl called grace who was attacked by wolves when she was younger. One wolf saved her, the wolf with golden eyes. She finds herself visited by this wolf each winter, and he stands in the trees at the end of her garden. It is also from the view of a boy called Sam. But you should read it to find out more about him. This book is one of a three part? Series. At least i think its three parts...

We have harry potter as a common taste in books, so if you haven't read them already, you should defiantly check them out. :3

Hope you enjoy my recommendations if you read them!

I really like this sequence and that i can not wait to get a replica. Myth- I similar to to get far from this world for a at the same time and overlook in regards to the dangerous and even the nice of this existence adn recall what it could be like somewhere else. If I desired to be trained about the reality of this world or life then I could simply watch the information.

Alright, well since you have already given thumbs down to almost all of these answers. I suggest you read The Chronicles of Nick series. The first book is Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I'm a BIG fan of Harry Potter and Twilight. I've read The Hunger Games trilogy. In the beginning, I wasn't too sure about The Chronicles of Nick, but they really are worth reading.

go for the charlie bone books - they're very harry potter-ish....i think right up your alley. the first one is called Midnight for Charlie Bone, and they're by Jenny Nimmo.

summary, from amazon.com: A magical fantasy that is fast-paced and easy-to-read. Charlie Bone has a special gift- he can hear people in photographs talking.

The fabulous powers of the Red King were passed down through his descendants, after turning up quite unexpectedly, in someone who had no idea where they came from. This is what happened to Charlie Bone, and to some of the children he met behind the grim, gray walls of Bloor's Academy.

Charlie Bone has discovered an unusual gift-he can hear people in photographs talking! His scheming aunts decide to send him to Bloor Academy, a school for genius's where he uses his gifts to discover the truth despite all the dangers that lie ahead.

You should consider "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel". It is a very well written story and consist of six different books. They have lots of different good sides and diffidently covers your needs if you like fantasy. It is a great story and even if you choose not to read it now, keep it in mind for another time :)
