he's still as popular as ever because, harold bloom tells us, he teaches us who we are. when we love, we love like romeo, when we are jealous, we are jealous like othello; in addition to his insights to human nature, shakespeare's number one reason to write was financial. he wrote what people liked; his plays entertained the lower and highest class (royalty!). also, he wasn't chained to one genre: he'll give you laughs, tears, histories, romances, etc.

don't dismiss the bard just because some stodgy teacher tried to force him on you!

Hi Jessica, there is no short answer so I'll try with the best resources that I have: Shakespeare's plays were never really meant to be read, they were to be seen. He wrote about every human trait possible, love, hatred, jealously, tragedy, etc, etc. Here are a fragment of what you can find:

shakespeare is in many situations between the worldwide's maximum appropriate writers because of the fact a brilliant variety of of his concepts are unforgettable once you have heard them for the 1st time. 'lilies that fester scent plenty worse than weeds' 'to thine very own self be genuine' 'parting is such candy sorrow' 'if music be the food of love' .... i don't be conscious of which 4 greek authors you're thinking of. while we communicate relating to the wonderful authors which the west has produced the checklist in many situations is going: homer; vergil; dante; bocaccio; chaucer; shakespeare; goethe; brecht.

EXACTLY I DUNNO!! I mean apart from the fact that he was a great poet and writer (not being sarcastic) i dunno why he's such a legend. Tbh i think he's cheesy, boring and gay.
