In ELA, my class has to do this thing where we have to bring in our favorite fairy tale, fable, or folktale books. So I thought of The Tale of Despereaux, cuz that's one of my favorites, but it has to be something like Sleeping Beauty, or Cinderella...
So can you guys think of some good ones? Thanks!

I'M DOING THE LITTLE MERMAID, AND YOU SHOULD DO THUMBELINA, IT'S ABOUT THE GIRL AND SHE'S ALL TINY BECAUSE....WELL I HAVEN'T READ IT, SO I DON'T KNOW WHY SHE'S TINY, BUT VOTE 4 ME!!!

DON'T DO ONE ABOUT TWO KIDS IN THE WOODS THAT GET EATEN BY A WITCH, BECAUSE THAT'S TYPICAL.

HAHA, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE DOES, IT'S GOING TO BE SO FUNNY!

MY LITTLE GRAMMAR HELPER THINGY IS GETTING ANGRY AT ME, BECAUSE IT SAYS THAT EVERYBODY'S GOING TO THINK I'M YELLING BY TALKING IN ALL CAPS, BUT I'M NOT I'M JUST TOO LAZY TO TURN THE CAPS LOCK OFF.

OH, YOU COULD ALSO DO THE TURTLE AND THE HAIR. EXCEPT IT MIGHT BE A TORTOISE (HEY LITTLE GRAMMAR PERSON, IS THAT HOW YOU SPELL TORTOISE???)

OR YOU COULD DO ANY OF THESE, ALTHOUGH I'VE NEVER READ THEM, I JUST KNOW THEY'RE BY HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON, AND THEY'RE FAIRY TALES:

THE TINDERBOX

LITTLE IDA'S FLOWERS (OH, THIS ONE IS ABOUT THIS GIRL AND HER FLOWERS DIE)

THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES (EXCEPT I DON'T THINK THEY'RE CLOTHES)

THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER

THE FLYING TRUNK (EITHER ABOUT A ELEPHANT WHO GETS IT'S TRUNK CUT OFF, AND THE TRUNK FLIES AWAY, OR THE TRUNK THAT CARRIES CARGO)

THE SWEETHEARTS

THE BELL

THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL

THE COLLAR

THE GOBLIN AT THE GROCER'S

IN A THOUSAND YEARS' TIME

FIVE PEAS FROM THE SAME POD

THE BEETLE

THE TOAD

DANCE, DANCE, DOLLY MINE! (SOUNDS STUPID)

AND THEN THERE'S THIS OTHER ONE ABOUT A GARDENER.

HOPE I HELPED, VOTE 4 ME BECAUSE MY ANSWER IS LONG!

I don't believe training is a must for a dog to want to protect its master. Much also depends on the dog and the breed. All my personal experienced with instinctive protection has been with breeds that were bred for such jobs; a doberman and several belgian shepherd dogs (groenendael and tervueren) - none of these dogs have been protection trained. Example: My first belgian sheperd dog's protection instincts kicked in when she was about 2 years old. She went between me and a potential threat/or what she perceived as a potential threat on several occasions, growling and snarling, with dominant body-language and only backed off when I told her to. Her half sister saved her owner from being raped by attacking the rapist. Non-personal experience: There was a case here not too long ago, about a rottweiler that shredded three guys trying to rape his owner. And another case a couple of years back where the hero dog was actually a dachshound. So no, it's not a give that any dog will protect its owner instinctively, but it does happen, and quite often at that.

Check Grimm's Fairy Tales or Hans Christian Andersen for classic fairy and folk tales. Maybe Aesop's fables or some American folk tales (Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, John Henry).

I like the Bremen Town Musicians, any of Aesop, Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel, Rumplestiltskin, and Brer Rabbit.

My favorite was always this story about a blue rose...it's why the blue rose symbolizes something special to me even now. Everytime I read it, I realize something new about myself, for some reason it's just one of those that's stuck with me since I was little. I've always told every guy I've ever met that the one who ever gave me a blue rose I would love for the rest of my life.lol

(short story version)

THE BLUE ROSE-CHINESE FOLKTALE

I just found a way longer version of this...there's a few different versions out there: http://www.thejohnsens.com/bluerose.html

I hope you enjoy the story as much as I always have.

When I was little, I loved the tale of the three billy goats and the troll who lives under the bridge:
