I'm looking for quotes from the novel that show examples of Victor's lack of taking responsibility and quotes that show the danger of great knowledge. I have two already and need two more.

The quotes I have:

"You have made me wretched beyond expression". (Victor talking to the monster).

"to have gained a disciple; and if your application equals your ability, I have no doubt of your success". (Victor's professor talking to him).

hey there,

ive got for danger of knowledge:

+ learn from me, if not by my precepts, then by my example, how dangerous is the pursuit of knowledge and how much happier is that man who believes his native town to be the world than he who aspires to be greater than his nature will allow. (56, mid ch3)

+ it was the secrets of heaven and earth i desired to learn... (37, ch 2)

+ intense application... smitten with the thirst for knowledge... (35, ch 2, at the beggining)

And those that could work for his lack of taking responsibility:

+ destiny was too potent, and her immutable laws had decreed my utter and terrible destruction (42, chapter 2, at the end) (this could be like victor blaming fate and not his actions)

however i do not believe that he was not taking responsibility, the whole point of him telling his story is to warn others against doing the same thing and also to confess to Walton. I believe that Victor actually has self loathing for himself because of what he did.

+ i was seized by remorse and the sense of guilt, which hurried me away to a hell of intense tortures, such as no language can describe ()

+ during these last days ive been occypied in examining my past conduct. In a fit of madness i created a rational creature and was bound towardsd him... the task of his destruction was mine, but i have failed. (245, walton in continuation)

+ i considered the being whom i had cast among mankind and endowed with the will and purpose of horror, such as the deed which he had now done, nearly in the light of my own vampire, my own spirit let loose from the grave and forced to destryo all that was dear to me (83, ch7)

+ during the whole of this wretched mockery of justice i suffered living torture. It was to be decided whether the result of my curiosity and lawless devices would cause the death of two of my fellow beings. now all was to be obliteratedin an ignomious grave, and I THE CAUSE. A thousand times i would have confessed myself... (88, ch 8)

there are heaps more but i need to be finishing off an assignment.. if you find some good ones that you can justify of Victor not taking responsibility it would be great i may be able to use them

Hope it helps
