I thought The Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind was ALOT like Eragon, very similar plot, but extremely good.

I think someone else mentioned Tamora Pierce, she is a MUST READ, I personally recommend her Circle of Magic Series to all my friends, and I've never gotten a negative opinion about them.

Emily Rodda is my favourite author, mostly cos she ties the plot together so well and I love the riddles, Deltora Quest series and Rowan of Rin series are fantastic.

The Rangers Apprentice Series by John Flanagan is great, not really based on magic but set in the same time and you'd have to call it fantasy. Someone described it to me like that and I kinda thought "nah, no magic, not my type of thing" but I LOVED it.

Isobelle Carmody's Obernewtyn Series is amazing, a fantasy set in the future and it not only has a good plot but some interesting concepts too.

Trudi Canavan has written two good series, The Black Magician Trilogy and the Age of the Five trilogy. In both, it is really hard to get into them, the first books are so boring, but once you get into the second things start picking up and you'll really enjoy it.

Well the books in my Answer alone should last you at least a month (if you read at my rate) not to mention everyone else's Answersso I won't go on! Good luck, enjoy your reading!

I know Terry Brooks' The Sword of Shannara has most of the elements you mentioned you like; dwarfs, elves, magicians and the works.... no dragons though. Same sort of background - backwater beginning, and then suddenly a hapless village boy found himself on a quest to save the kingdom with the help of new peculiar friends, embarking on the journey of his life.....

Sound familiar? Yeah. Tolkien-esque, you might say. I'm not really recommending it, though. But you go ahead and read it if that's your thing.

I agree with Pax-C, you might enjoy Ann McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. You might also like to try Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. They're about dragons too.

Have you read the Lord of the Rings trilogy? That is also a good place to start if you haven't already. They present quite a serious bit of reading, and if you're used to Eragon and Eldest, you might need to shift your gear a few transmissions higher.

And there’s Harry Potter too. I’m guessing that you’ve read them all. But if you haven’t, well, hurry up and start! Some people stop at the first or second book, that’s why some couldn’t imagine why people are so crazy over all things Harry Potter. The story grew darker with each series and so do the character and plot development.

Anyway, good luck and happy reading!

properly I agree w/ the different that it incredibly is a great e book. yet i'll bypass extra desirable=] Eragon replaced right into a splash slow, not basically interior the few chapters, however the 1st 250 pages. So after analyzing ti 0.5 way, i finished. Then I observed the action picture. The action picture replaced into def. not that stable, or unswerving to the e book, so a procedures as I remmebered however the plot replaced into so exciting, that I nevertheless identity start up eragon back. i did not start up from the begining by way of fact There wasn't plenty i necessary to recollect the 1st 250 pages are basically, the butcher, the egg, looking after sahphira, and assembly brom and rancid they bypass. I merely finished eragon 2 nights in the past, and enjoyed it. the subsequent 0.5 of the e book is marvelous. the 1st 0.5 isn';t to undesirable, yet def. a slow %.. i'm now beginning eldest, and that my pal, wil seize you with the 1st web site. it incredibly is excellent so a procedures and lots extra action packed. yet of direction in trilogys the 1st 0.5 of the e book is usually a average bore, like lotr and inkheart trilogy. So i in my opinion propose you examine it. The books are my #3 in my suitable 3 well-liked books. and that i've got examine over a e book each and every 2 days, so approximately 3 books a week. So basically I hve examine alot. Eragon & eldest and the subsequent e book are specific to thrill you.

Check out your local library for books like the Dragon Rider of Pern series!

You like Elves.

Ask at your local book or comic shop for the graphic novels of Wendy Pini.

Try a search of Amazon using Dragon as a parameter.

As there is no definite proof though many stories and legends about dragons and elves you meant want to

NOT use phrases like "pictured in the past" if you mean fantasy novels ... fiction ... set in feudal societies?

Your library at school or local should have non fiction books on folklore or collections of old fairy stories.

Ask the librarian about novels and folklore and legends.

Profiles dont give locations or ages so I have no idea what reading level you are at ?

Whether you're Australian Asian or American dont neglect your own cultural traditions and legends!

Dont forget to balance reading those delightful fantasy novels with equally well written books on history mythology and science!

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede

The Song of the Lionness series by Tamora Pierce (really anything by her)

The Safe Keepers series by Sharon Shinn

The Squire's Tales series by Gilbert Morris

Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer

The Dragonriders of Pern are really where the popularity of dragon books began. Anne Mc Caffrey's books still stand up as the best in the genre. Pax - C

I'm halfway through Eragon and it reminds me somewhat of Lord of the Rings. It's too much of a coincidence that a major character in LOTR was Aragorn which sounds almost like Eragon.

I found Eragon very similar to Lord of the Rings.

Try reading the Hobbit first though, it's a lot easier to read and give you the back story to L.O.T.R.
