Do you have any favorite literary genres? My personal favorites are mystery/thrillers and biographies & autobiographies, so my suggestions would be coming from that area.

A great book I think everyone should read is "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson which was the base for the films "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith, "The Last Man on Earth" w/Vincent Price, and "The Omega Man" w/Charlton Heston. It's the story of a post-apocalyptic future ravaged by disease & bio warfare. Most of the world is dead with only pockets of survivors, most being mentally deranged sickly mutants. An unharmed holdout in L.A. is a physician, Dr. Robert Neville, who has a daily fight for survival against these sick people in his community who want to see him dead. This is an incredible story with rich character studies, and an exciting plot. I highly recommend it!

I also recommend most of the works of Dean Koontz, who is a brilliant writer. His masterpiece is "False Memory" revolving around the concept of mind manipulation and hypnosis. Really incredible work; it's almost a literary symphony, it's so well-written.

Dangerous Days: The Autobiography of a Photojournalist, and its sequel, Blades: The Autobiography of a Rescue-Helicopter Pilot, both by J. William Turner. Very realistic fiction about teens in several tense, dramatic, life and death situations set in Australia, Canada, England and California. The plot of each novel is written as a collection of four related shorter books (about 100 pages per book) inside a single cover dealing with teenage, adult and social themes. More info in Google

recognize you stated no vampire books...yet i imagine Twilight is tremendous! it truly is a good e book and it truly is in a human beings aspect of view, no longer a vampires! it is also a movie. there is: Twilight; New Moon; Eclipse; and Breaking daybreak... although Breaking daybreak isn't out contained in the cinema's yet... If no longer Twilight, then how about some Jaqueline Wilson books? they are impressive!!! and actually humorous. wish I helped(:
