Ok, this answer might be a little long. But in my defence, it's only because I love books too!

Anything by Tamora Peirce- she's written:

The Immortals quartet:

Wild Magic

Wolf Speaker

Emperor Mage

In the Realms of the Gods

The Song of the Lioness quartet:

Alanna- the First Adventure

In the Hand of the Goddess

The Women Who Rides Like a Man

Lioness Rampant

The Circle of Magic quartet:

Sandry's Book

Briar's Book

Daja's Book

Tris's Book

The Circle Opens Quartet:

Magic Steps

Street Magic

Cold Fire

Shatterglass

The Protector of the Small quartet:

First Test

Page

Squire

Lady Knight

and all her single books:

Beka Cooper- Terriar

The Trickster's Choice

The Trickster's Queen

The Will of the Emperess

-LOVE THESE! (I hope I remembered them all...)

They're Fantasy, of course. Most things I'm likely to recommend are. I'll note it if they're not, though.

Redwall

Martin the Warrior

Mariel

The Pearls of Lutra

High Rhulain

Mossflower

Mattimeo

The Bellmaker

Salamandastron

The Outcast of Redwall

Marlfox

The Long Patrol

The Legend of Luke

Lord Brocktree

Taggerung

Triss

Eulalia!

Loamhedge

Doomwhyte

and Rackety Tam

- These may be written for younger kids, but the poetry in them is well worth reading. I've read them since second grade, and still haven't found something with as good a vocabulary as they have (well, besides Tolkien, obviously.)

Monica Furlong's books-

Juniper

Wise Child

Colman

-These are really thought provoking!

Madeleine L'engle's books-

the Time quintet:

A Wrinkle in Time

A Wind in the Door

A Swiftly Tilting Planet

Many Waters

An Acceptable Time

The Austin Family:

Troubling a Star

A Ring of Endless Light

- Oh. My. Goodness. I love her writing! Especially a Ring of Endless Light. Too perfect. :O

Terry Pratchet-

In Ankhmorpork-

Going Postal

Gaurds! Gaurds!

Feet of Clay

Thud

Jingo

The Color of Magic

The Light Fantastic

Eric

Soul Music

Interesting Times

Hogfather

The Fifth Elephant

Night Watch

On the Ramtops-

Equal Rites

Wyrd Sisters

Lords and Ladies

Carpe Jugulum

Witches Abroad

Maskerade

On the Chalkdowns-

Wee Free Men

A Hat Full of Sky

Wintersmith

With Death Featuring prominently-

Mort

Reaper Man

Other-

Pyramids

Good Omens

Eric

Small Gods

Monsterous Regiment

- THESE ARE SO INCREDIBLY HILARIOUS!!

(Exclamation marks go on forever, but I've managed to squash "Forever" into one line, for your conveniance. Just imagine that there's a whole lot more of them.)

Elizabeth Peters-

Lord of the Silent

He Shall Thunder in the Sky

Children of the Storm

The Snake, the Crocodile, and the Dog

The Golden One

The Hipopotomus Pool

The Last Camel Died at Noon

The Ape that Gaurds the Balance

The Falcon at the Portal

Seeing a Large Cat

The Lion in the Valley

Curse of the Pharoahs

The Mummy Case

The Crocodile on the Sandbank

- I love these! They're really good (if you like mysteries).

Kate Constable-

The Singer Of All Songs

The Waterless Sea

The Tenth Power

- These are pretty good... The last one is really, really sad though...

J.R.Tolkien-

The Hobbit

The Fellowship of the Ring

The Two Towers

The Return of the King

- These definately deserve a mention. Undoubtedly, they are some of the best literature ever written. It goes without saying.

Eoin Colfer-

Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incedent

Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code

Artemis Fowl and the Opal Deception

Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony

Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox

- I like these a lot. They're not particularly well written, but I'd recomend them if you had run out of good things to read.

William Shakespear-

The Tempest

As You Like It

Hamlet

Christopher Paolini-

Eragon

Eldest

Brisingr

- The plotline on these is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, but they're a very satisfying read!

Libba Bray-

A Great and Terrible Beauty

Rebel Angels

The Sweet Far Thing

- These have a bit of adult content, but they're written intriguingly.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Maximum Ride: School's Out Forever

Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports

Maximum Ride: The Final Warning

Maximum Ride: MAX

- These are for people who are a little more impatient for the story plot to start quickly. Very full of adventure, and very enthralling. I didn't really like 'The Final Warning', but that's just me. And 'MAX' more than made up for it!

Then there are the Harry Potter books, but I'm not even going to bother recomending those. I'm sure you've read them.

Robin McKinley-

The Hero and the Crown

The Blue Sword

Deerskin

Beauty

Spindle's End

Dragonhaven

-She has an interesting style. Some

I'll offer some suggestions from some of my favorite genres...

Fantasy

-The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

-If you're a little older, then I suggest some of the stories about the 'hero' named Kane by Karl Edward Wagner (the stories are in the sword and sorcery realm). They can be hard to find, but some anthologies of short stories about the character Kane include Death Angel's Shadow, Night Winds, etc.

-If you're a little younger/a young adult, then I suggest some of the books and series by Tamora Pierce, such as the Circle of Magic series and The Song of the Lioness series.

Historical Fiction (and Romance)

-Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery (this series contains 8 books, the first being Anne of Green Gables)

-Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

-anything by Jane Austen, such as Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, etc.

Suspense/Thriller/Horror

-anything by Dean Koontz, such as Watchers, Strangers, Twilight Eyes, Phantoms, Lightning, etc. (I don't know your age, so I will warn that some of Koontz's books contain some adult themes and scenes.)

-short stories by H.P. Lovecraft (there are many anthologies of his works)

-short stories by Edgar Allan Poe

Best wishes!
