After the last chapter, there's sometimes 2-4 blank pages with absolutely nothing on them. Why is that?

Hardcover books are printed on larger sheets of paper that are printed, then folded and cut to form individual pages of the book. Several of these large sheets will usually make up 16 book pages (each of these chunks of the book are called signatures). Often, a writer doesn't fill up an entire signature with printed material which results in blank pages left at the end of the book.

If you look at book pages, sometimes they are in groups. I suppose when the book finishes the rest of the pages in the group are blank.
