A Horcrux is an object for example, a locket in which you can store a piece of your soul in. In HBP, Harry finds out that Professor Slughorn had explained to a young Voldemort what a Horcrux was. Slughorn says that you can split your soul in half by killing a person once and doing the charm/spell to make a Horcrux out of that killing. Just killing someone doesn't automatically give you a Horcrux. The most (before Voldemort's time) Horcruxes that had ever been made before was one... which means the person had half of their soul in them and half in an outside object. Voldemort in HBP asked if it would be best to divide your soul into seven parts because seven was the most powerful number to him. Slughorn advised him to not do so because in doing so, each time you split your soul, you would become less human-like. Dumbledore mentions that Voldemort has always failed to see the importance of a whole soul but instead wants to be invincible. So, Voldemort had six Horcruxes, as the seventh one has and always will be (until he is dead), inside of him. In HBP, we discover that Harry had already destroyed one in the COS(Chamber Of Secrets #2), which was the book that Tom Riddle (aka Voldemort) had came back to life in, as a memory. And as I'm sure you'll remember, all throughout book #6, Dumbledore's hand in blackened and withered and we don't find out until realy late in the book that it is that way because Dumbledore had found and destroyed a Horcrux. In the chapter, The Cave, Dumbledore and Harry set off to find one more Horcrux... and I'm sure you know what happens from then on. Hope I helped.

When you kill someone you split you soul and if you use a dark spell you cant ake that piece of soul and hide it an it object and suround it with magical spells and enchaments to protect it. This way if anyone trys to kill you, you cannot fully die because you're soul is still there. In the magical world some dark wizards do this and make one horcrux. But Voldemort who is the darkest makes 6 well actually 7. Anyways when Voldemort tried to kill Harry as a baby and the killing curse hit Voldemort but he didn't die because of his horcruxes. Since you said you have read every book 4 times I am assuming you meant you have read the 7th one to so I am going to say this but if you haven't and don't want it runined STOP READING
Anyways in the end Harry destroys all the horcruxes rendering Voldemort mortal and Voldemort kills himself with a killing curse that he aimes at Harry but agains bounces back and hits Voldemort because Harry has the Elder Wand, the "unbeatable" wand.
Hope this helps any!

A horcrux according to Harry Potter is an object that contains part of a person's soul. Essentially, the character is ripping their soul into two parts, so if one part of the person is killed, the other part lives on, although it is not equal to a whole person. That's why Voldemort is so stinking ugly - he's not a whole person. The book says that a person can divide themselve into seven parts.
Thank heavens Harry Potter is fictional :-)

Okay in book 6 it's explained that it's a complicated spell in which the person doing the horcrux puts a bit of himself into an object. Usually it's only an item or two but they have to be destroyed before that person can be killed.
Hey that's a great question, so much has to be done in book 7 come to think about it. Stars to you for reminding me about it.

Read the sixth. A horcrux is something you get when you murder someone. It breaks up your soul. You put the peices of your sooul in an object, so they will be safe. You can't die untill you kill all the horcrux's, and the human form. Hope I explained that well anough

a horcux is an object in which a dark wizard stores a bit of his soul, in order to become immortal. In other words, A dark wizard splits his soul ( by murdering someone) and then stores it in an object just in case something happens to his human soul.
In Voldemorts case, he split his soul 6 times, creating 6 horcruxes so that he can be as immortal as possible, which is why Harry wants to destroy the horcruxes to kill Voldemort.
Hope this clears things up!

A horcrux is an item that Voldemort places part of himself into it. Think of it as different containers for Voldemort's soul. The only way to kill him is to destroy every part of his soul, right? so, Harry has to destroy every horcrux to defeat Voldemort.
That's why there's a rumor that Harry will have to destroy himself. In most of the other books, Dumbledore told Harry that Voldemort put part of himself into Harry (which is why Harry can speak the snake-language).

Ok.A Horcrux is a a very strong piece of dark magic. It is made by a strong Dark Wizard. What happens is,you seal a piece of your soul in it.How?You kill someone.Killing rips the soul apart apparently.By doing this, you a making yourself immortal. This way,if you're body is killed, you still have a piece of life and you haven't really died.Voldemort used strong magical objects to make his Horcrux.Like the locket of one of his Slytherin ancestors.Or his snake Nagini(since he is a Parseltongue)It is said he made..6,I think. He was going to kill Harry and make his 7th one,but of course something went wrong.

Okay, so Voldemort can split his soul, and he puts the "pieces" of his soul in random objects that he makes horcrux's. This is why he doesn't die fully. For Voldemort for fully die, all 7 of his horcrux's have to be destroyed.

voldemort split his soul/power into several different peices so that if he dies then he can come back to life by using a horcrux. he will still hav a lot of power this way and basically cant fully die until all of his horcrux's are destroyed. one of them is his snake for example... i hope this helps you!!! :)

A piece of soul seperated from the whole which can only be created by killing someone.. Voldemort has 6 maybe 7.
