Can anyone suggest to me what good novels to read?

I especially like mystery and suspense fiction by a good author. I am now reading Mary Higgins Clark and I can't say much yet. I've just started a few chapters. I've read all Sidney Sheldon books (which to me are very entertaining!) and I am searching now for a good author to read. Can anyone help me?

I agree with Agatha Christie, but would also add Sherlock Holmes. The entire collection is free online. Think of it as "CSI: London 1890" Excellent twists from the most famous crime scene investigator of all time (and rightly so).

"Hidden Camera," Zoran Zivkovic, is a light mystery, very good.

"A Wrinkle in Time" series, Madeline L'Engle.

"Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Great Divorce," by C. S. Lewis.

"The Secret Garden," Frances Burnett.

"Extraordinary Knowing," Dr. Elizabeth Mayer, "Entering the Circle" and "The Master of Lucid Dreams," Dr. Olga Kharitidi, "Psychonavigation," John Perkins, "The Soulless One," Mark Prophet, "Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton, "Testimony of Light," Helen Greaves, "The True Story of the Bilderberg Group," Daniel Estulin, "The Overachievers," Alexandra Robbins, and "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, are non-fiction, and good mystery/investigations in themselves.

Frank Peretti is really good and so is Ted Dekker. some of their books are too suspensfull for me but my husband loves them. Ted Dekker's "Obsessed" is my favorite historical/ suspencefull fiction. "Three" is really good too. Frank Peretti's "monster" is also really good.

If you want good fiction that is just a little suspensefull, you may like Karen Kingsbury. She has written a lot of books and her books are hard to find at any library b/c she is so popular. One called Dandelion Dust is about a mother who gives her child up for adoption and forges the dad's signature b/c he is in prison. When he gets out and a friend tells him, he is outraged and tries to get the child back. The adoptive family is really upset as the child is a toddler and they have no choice but to put their trust in the Lord as the law seems to be pretty clear, suspensful and very sweet.

Twilight- New Moon- Elipse by Stephanie Meyer. If you want to go to her webpage go here http://stephaniemeyer.com This book is about a vampire. Here is a quick summary. Isabella Swan decides to move from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to rainy Forks, Washington to live with her father Charlie, in order to allow her mother to travel with her new husband, Phil Dwyer, a "strictly minor league" baseball player. Even though she never had many friends in Phoenix, Bella quickly discovers she is the new subject of curiosity and envy at her new school in Forks, where she is quickly befriended by several students. Much to her embarrassment, she discovers that several boys are vying for her attention.

Bella finds Forks a bit repetitive and lacking in joy. She never liked the ever-raining city as a child, and even referred to it in Twilight as her "own personal hell on earth". However, the one exception to her boring life in Forks is Edward Cullen, the gorgeous and beautiful, mysterious boy she sits next to in her biology class. Through careful observation, Bella realizes that Edward is more than he seems to be, but despite having many theories she cannot bring herself to believe that there is a supernatural explanation for Edward's behavior.

From the first day she saw him, Bella believed Edward disliked her as he acted with mysterious tension and even danger when she first sat next to him. However, his attitude towards her soon begins to change. He displays supernatural abilities in saving Bella from being hit by an out-of-control van about to crush her in the student parking lot of the high school. After seeing a dent in the van in the shape of Edward's shoulder, she realizes the vehicle hit him and that he seemed to be holding it away from her. Bella confronts him afterwards with the strangeness of the situation, but he refuses to talk to her about it. As time passes, Bella and Edward are repeatedly drawn to one other, even though Edward desperately tries to keep away to keep her out of the danger he will be likely to put her in.

And the these series of books

Uglies- Pretties- Specials- Extras by Scott Westerfeld. Here is the summary of Uglies.

Tally was tired of being separated from her best friend, Peris. The last few months, trapped in Uglyville while Peris was in New Pretty Town, had been torture. Tally decided she had to see him, even if for only a few minutes, and escaped into New Pretty Town. She did manage to see Peris very briefly and he had changed inside and out. He was mildly pleased to see Tally and promised they would be best friends again when Tally became "pretty" in a few months. He helped her escape safely and, on her way back to Uglyville, she met Shay. Shay is another "ugly" who was also meeting a friend in New Pretty Town. She and Tally shared stories of their adventures. They became the best of friends, and Shay took Tally to the Rusty Ruins. She shared with her about a group of people who had run away to live in the forest by the ruin. Those people had decided not to become "pretty" and Shay was considering it too. She wanted Tally to run away with her and not become "pretty", but Tally wouldn't. Shay left without her. So, Tally became sixteen, and was on her way to the hospital for the "pretty" operation, when she found herself at Special Circumstances instead. A "cruel pretty" named Dr. Cable met with Tally and told her that either she could become a spy and go to the forest and activate a tracker (disguised as a pendant) so that the people living there could be arrested or she could stay "ugly" forever. Tally, thinking she really didn't have a choice, decided to become a spy and found the people who lived in the forest, called the Smoke. The Smokies, as they are called, don't trust her at first, but in time, she convinced them that she wanted to be there. Tally had to tell numerous lies to cover the truth and the lies get more and more complicated. In time, she decided that she really liked living there, developed a relationship with David, and wanted to become a Smokie. To show her commitment to the Smokies, and to David specifically, Tally threw her pendant into the fire. Unbeknownst to Tally, the pendant was programmed to go off even if it was damaged. The tracking signal was sent, and when Tally awoke, Special Circumstances had surrounded the Smoke. Will Tally, David, and the other Smokies escape or will they be captured and forced to become "pretty"?

Please try " To Kill a Mockingbird" if you like simple, down to earth fare.
