Question:
I just finished the Twilight Series, what should I read now?

Twilight was an amazing series, and I'm really sad to have finished it. (I usually feel like this when I finish a great series, but for som reason, this one seems to hurt much, much more).

My Problem: Now that the series is over, I have nothing better to read. The last time this happened to me, it took 2 years to get over it and find Twilight. (thanks to my cousin, you're awesome!) I need ideas.

A few guidelines:

- I love the whole vampire thing, but I don't want a story where all of them are evil and go on mass killing sprees on humans. (that includes Darcula!)

- Romance mixed in with the vampire thing would be a great bonus.

- I hate mystery, blood-and-gore, and any fantasy involving unicorns, mermaids, elves, and any other bedtime story things.

- I'm 13, but I'm very mature for my age. (Bella and Edward's honeymoon wasn't a problem for me, for instance) So anything in the young adult category will work.

- Don't say "The Vampire Diaries", "The Vampire Academy", or "House of Night". I know these exist and I'm going to try these soon.

- Werewolves are also a plus (like the romance thing), but I don't want any major conflict (if there is any) between the vampires and werewolves

Sorry if I'm being picky; I can't help it :)

Thanks to anyone who answers!

"His Dark Materials" Trilogy by Phillip Pullman. I've seen it in the bookstore with all 3 books published as one. This series was very good. I would read this next because they are planning to slaughter it by turning the books into movies. 1. The Golden Compass 2. The Subtle Knife 3. The Amber Spyglass "The Wayfarer Redemption" series by Sara Douglass. This book has 3 books or 6 books depending on who you ask. Technically it's 2 series of 3 books that inter-relate well enough for it to be a 6 book series. Either way the first book is called "Battleaxe". I really enjoyed these books. I found the first 3 better than the second 3, but I still read all 6 to find out how the entire story would end. Rumer has it that there is a final book in this series that has just been published. It could just be a rumer. 1. Battleaxe 2. Enchanter 3. Starman 4. Sinner 5. Pilgrim 6. Crusader "The Bartimaeus Trilogy" by Johnathan Stroud. This book is written in 2 different 'persons' some chapters are related by the narrerator following the main character, and other chapters are related by Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus is very sarcastic and full of wisecracks, it made me laugh. 1. The Amulet of Samarkand 2. The Golem's Eye 3. Ptolemy's Gate There is also Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini. However if you haven't read it yet I would recommend waiting another year before getting into this series. There is a third book yet to be published, and the books end rather abruptly. There is no sense in starting the series yet, when the third book isn't available yet. However, keep it in mind. I hope I've helped!!

Well, since you already have listed Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith as a book you are going to read, how about some of LJS's other series as well?

The NightWorld Series: Vampires, Witches, Romance & 'Wolves, etc

---Secret Vampire, Daughters of Darkness, Spellbinder, Dark Angel, The Chosen, Soulmate, Huntress, Black Dawn, Witchlight

The Secret Circle Series: Witches and Romance

--The Initiation, The Captive, The Power

The Dark Vision Series: Psychic Vamps, Romance

---The Strange Power, The Possessed, The Passion

And I almost didn't put this one down because you said you didn't like fantasy related material, but this one isn't really fantasy (well, it is, but it isn't). Its certainly NOT bedtime story related though, far from it, so I thought you might want to give it a shot. It is different, but its a good different:

The Forbidden Game Series: Runes, Romance, Different Race

---The Hunter, The Chase, The Kill

As I said already, all of these are by LJ Smith. If you like TW you will probably like LJ's books--a lot of people do. Give Forbidden Game a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised. I'm not into runes related stuff either, but the books are a good read. Very different, but also worth it.

Based on your 'requirements' you will probaly really like The NightWorld Series. They are shorter novels than TW Saga, but they are awesome (I've read them repeatedly over ten years time), but really all of LJS's books are good, in their own special kind of way, so enjoy them!

Evermore The Immortals series by Alyson Noel.Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Gabriele Caccini:The Vampire Gene by Paigan Stone

I'm looking for a girl - and not just any girl will do. You see I'm no ordinary student at Manchester University and the lovely Carolyn is exactly what I want. Tall, dark and androgynous; she resembles my cousin and first love. All my girls do... I didn't bank on the beautiful Lilly, of course. She's blonde, curvy; has thrown me with her lyrical voice. I admit she's gorgeous even though she is not my type! But despite my protests my dreams are filled with Lilly and even a Seventeenth Century vampire has trouble controlling his urges. Especially when drugged by a fellow student with Ecstasy. Over four hundred women have died because of my uncontrollable passion, so why is Lilly the only woman in centuries to survive my fatal kiss?

Gabriele Caccini is a vampire who wants to be loved and wants to share an eternity with a girl that he can feed off of and love her at the same time and spend eternity with her.But everytime he comes close to loving a girl he kills her and all he wants is someone to survive so they can b with him forever. This is the best book I ever read and there is going to b a 2nd book in the series called Furtile Flame that comes out the end of June can't wait. Also he is the protagonist of the story.

Well Stephine Myer I think is writing midnight sun which is from Edwards point of view the 5th one in the series. But I don't know if it will come out because I heard someone illegally posted it online, but I think you can read the first 12 chapters of it online. Keep your eyes peeled it might come out to book stores.

But other than that is vampire books the only books you like?!? Because the clique series by Lisi Harrison are really good! And the characters in the book are about your age. So try that I like them!

Well, i liked the series Uglies by Scott Westerfield. It doesn't have any vampires or werewolves, but i had the same problem as you did when i finished the twilight series. I started to read the Uglies series right after twilight and found that it IS possible to forget about vampires and werewolves. If you want to see what the book is about, heres a link... http://www.teenreads.com/reviews/0689865384.asp

The good news is that now that you've finished reading Twilight, you have EVERYTHING better to read. I know you liked the books, but believe me, they're basically the bottom rung of YA fiction. It's all better and better from here on up.

I'd suggest that you break out of the vampire/werewolf thing for a while. There are other interesting plots and characters out there. Here are some of my favorite books that were written for people your age:

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. It's about a group of four teen-aged girls at a boarding school in England, in the late 19th century. They find a portal to another world and gain special powers which lead to all kinds of complications in their lives. It's REALLY excellent. Very well written, GREAT characters, and the fantasy world they find is SO cool (no unicorns or elves or crap like that.) This is the first book in a series. I haven't read the others yet, but the first one blows Twilight out of the water.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This is technically a sci-fi book, but there are few "sciencey" elements in it. It takes place in a bleak future where most of the world has been destroyed by war, and people in North America only continue to live in poverty-stricken "districts" which must supply the wealthy main city with goods and services. Every year, two children are selected from each district to fight to the death on reality TV. The winner gets enough food and goods to sustain his or her district for another year. It's a really good book, full of adventure and suspense. I loved it!

Anything by Elizabeth Scott. She writes so well and her characters seem so real. She has mostly books set in the real world, so there is not much fantasy to them, but there are really good romances in them.

Same Difference by Siobhan Vivian. GREAT book!!! It's a girl spending the summer away from her home and the difficulties she encounters, and how she finds her true self. I loved this one. My description sounds boring, but oh my god...great, great book. Love it.

Books that weren't necessarily written for teens, but that a lot of teens really enjoy:

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. About a young boy who saves the world without even knowing it (at first) and the price he pays for doing so. This is a very action-packed book with lots of conflict. No vampires or werewolves, but there is a lot of depth to all the characters and some really good conflicts that make you think.

Give some of these a try. I'm sure you'll like them at least as much as Twilight!

I suggest:

The Host by Stephenie Meyer -

A gripping story of love and betrayal in a future with the fate of humanity at stake. Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

I highly recommend this one.

The Secret Circle Series by L.J. Smith -

Caught in the struggle between good and evil . . .Cassie has joined the most alluring-and deadly-in-crowd imaginable. But power comes with a price, and it's more dangerous than she knows. Torn between the dueling desires of the two leaders of the Secret Circle, she must ultimately choose between saving all of New Salem, and her own dangerous love for the bewitching Adam, which threatens to tear the circle apart. In the ultimate battle between good and evil, will Cassie's supernatural powers be strong enough to lead the coven out of danger? Or will she foil prey to the dark forces within?. . . will she sacrifice her love for the circle to survive?

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling - Definite read.

Vampire Kisses Series by Ellen Schreiber -

The mansion on top of Benson Hill has been empty and boarded up for years. But a new family has moved in. A family that never ventures out during the day. Who are these creepy people -- especially the handsome, dark, and elusive Alexander Sterling? Or rather, what are they? Could the town gossip actually be true? Are they vampires?

Raven, who secretly covets a vampire kiss, both at the risk of her own mortality and Alexander's loving trust, is dying to uncover the truth.

That's the summary of the first book. The other books are:

1. Vampire Kisses

2. Kissing Coffins

3. Vampireville

4. Dance with a Vampire

5. The Coffin Club

6. Royal Blood

And there are others that are not out yet.

Mortal Instruments Series(City of Bones/Ashes/Glass) by Cassandra Clare -

Second Favorite. Loved it! http://www.mortalinstruments.com/ Check it out.

Evernight and Stargaze by Claudia Gray is good as well. Or so I've heard 0.o ...

Anyways, I suggest reading House of Night first, then Vampire Academy, then Vampire Diaries. That's the order from bad-good... for me, atleast.

Glass Houses is my favorite book. It's written by Rachel Caine and its part of the Morganville Vampires Series. It fits your requirements and its ongoing. The 6th book comes out on June 2nd and the seventh on Novemeber 18th. Its really, really good! It has romance, action and it has an amazing plot. I don't know anyone who doesn't like this series!
