ee doc smith (Yes it is lowercase letters). The Lensman Series. Starts with 'Triplanetary, and First Lensman, there's 7 or 8 in the series.

Larry Niven, the Neutron Star, and lots more. Ireally miss Niven's science (real science) Fiction. He went fantasy in the last one I read, but it was still a good story.

And how can I forget Ray Bradbury's Illustrated Man. Anything by Bradbury.

Theodor Sturgeon wrote some really good short stories.

For good SciFi look for the old Analog Magazine. They printed yearly anthologies of the best stuff.

Greg Bear, Moving Mars.

anything by Charles DeLint, Philip K. Dick, Neil Gaiman, or Heinlein. Also, Fahrenheit 451 (a classic) and Stranger in a Strange Land (also a classic) and Pattern Recognition - can't remember the author but it is very different and cool.
