Were Tolstoy and Shaw right about Shakespeare?

My schoolmate hates Shakespeare as well. I think he is very, very slightly overrated.

One fact is this: There has never been another writer as well known as Shakespeare. He and his work have endured the test of time.

Shelley also wrote an essay on 'What is Art'. Personally I think Shakespeare ticks all the boxes.
