My story is called "Life after loss." It's a fictional story about a seven year old(Dana) who loses her parents in a plane crash while coming back from their anniversary. Her babysitter, 15 year old Joey, is a good friend, and he feels a strong desire to help her. The two form a strong bond over the next two days, to the point where Joey wants to adopt Dana into his family. The two become inseparable. Joey adopts a big brother role to her and he becomes a ray of sunshine in a world that had gone dark for her. After convincing his parents as well as Dana's aunt and uncle(the only living family she was close to) that his love was real and his motives were pure Dana goes to live with Joey. The rest of the story details the struggles Dana faces as she tries to move on with her life; going back to school, making connections with people, meeting more of Joey's family, and more.
The two main themes of the story are moving on after loss, and togetherness and bonds. the bond between Joey and Dana is modeled after my relationship with my stepsister who used to be(and sometimes still is) stuck on me whenever I visit.
Now 'Life after loss' was the only title I really liked for it, but there is already a book named that, as well as for the other title when I saw that it was taken, 'Life goes on' It's also that I don't want the book to sound like a non-fiction advice book for what to do when you're grieving. If it's never published I won't even have to worry about changing the title, but in case I do finish it and there's actually some interest in it I'd like to see if there are better titles I can use.
