As a writer aspiring to get published, should I buy a mac or a PC? I had a wonderful IBM Thinkpad T41, with an ultra-fast keyboard, but it died. I am familiar with both operating systems. I’m kind-of wondering if having a mac will cause any issues with communicating with publishers or anything? I’m also considering getting an iPad2. I have a desktop pc, but I really don’t like sitting at my desk and writing – I like sitting on my couch. (Probably a symptom of sitting at a desk all day)… I’d appreciate all thoughts.

(Currently I am working on editing two novels – 220 & 178 pages).

Okay if you've finished writing them, save them in a .doc (mircosoft document) and make sure you got it in the right format. Most publishers accepting submissions online want them in .doc. (I recently learned that most of publishers are accepting through email.) I personally like PCs. If it's got a keyboard and a reliable word processor then you're good.

Don't forget to back up your work. Also, concentrate on one novel first. Work on the other one later. Polish it up and do your research to get your ideal publisher. Consider small press, too.

Actually writing them...get lots of paper and pencil. Really. You'll have less chance of losing your work if your computer gets a virus, and you're not staring at a glowing screen when you're stuck. You don't have to worry about turning your computer on when you get a sudden modivation. It never fails. Plus when you get to type it down, you read over it. The way I do it: Write, copy onto a word processor, proofread/edit. That way you get to read it 3 times. Or more.

It doesn't matter what you use, it's what's in your mind.

Actually it is interesting that you say this. I was thinking to make the book into both a novel and a graphic novel just because I enjoy them both. Both are different experiences. I find that Graphic novel is very good for the moments that matters most. Novels are good for imagination. ( during the summer I read at least 125 graphic novels) Saying that I do enjoy the graphic novels but I rather have someone else draws it. Actually I when I write all the scene that I see are in graphic novel form. I love seeing all the character's emotions over exaggerated and all that stuff that comes with graphic novels, all i have to do is put it into words. Anyhow my plan is to turn the novel into a graphic novel. Songs are hard for me to write. poems are songs. Today is a day that I am chewing the words I think into a jumble of English. so right now I can't get my point across no matter how Hard I try today.

Whichever you prefer.

You can't make your writing better by throwing money at your tools. It honestly doesn't matter if you do your editing with a notepad and pencil.

No, having a Mac won't cause any issues - there are loads of common file formats which are available on multiple OSs.

MS Word is all that matters.
