A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb

If you like romance!!

Helen's ghost has haunted different "hosts" for well over 150 years. Since she loves to read, she is especially attracted to the poetic or literary types --- at this moment in time she is haunting Mr. Brown, a high school English teacher who aspires one day to become a writer. She lingers as near as possible, reading over his shoulder, giving him gentle hints with his writing and enjoying his classroom life. Sometimes she grows a little jealous of his other life --- the one he has with his new wife. Sometimes she grows weary that she never seems to pass on as other spirits have done. Helen is herself haunted. A deep grieving guilt holds her:

I couldn't remember my sin, but I knew it was deep. My banishment from heaven was proof of it.

There is a quiet sameness in her life, but all of this changes one day when she realizes that someone can actually see her. Billy, one of Mr. Brown's students, looks right at her. She is both frightened and thrilled. It turns out that the body of Billy has become the host for the ghost of a man named James. In Helen's world, spirits are known as Lights and living beings are Quicks. Thus an astounding journey of four lost souls begins: Billy, Jenny, James and Helen.

The relationship between Helen and James is romantic and intense. As they explore who they are in their physical forms, they bring new dimensions to their living hosts, Billy and Jenny. Discovering their pasts, confronting their fears and accepting their fates, they all learn from each other. From the depths of four desperate beings love binds them and eventually releases them to their freedoms.

Hush. Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

(Very romantic, mysterious, and AWESOME!)

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen -- and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

Evermore by Alyson Noel

Sixteen-year-old Ever Bloom’s life changes forever in more ways than one after the car accident that kills her entire family. She must endure months of painful recovery from her injuries. She has to move to California to live with her aunt, which means saying goodbye to her popular friends, cheerleading, her boyfriend and everything familiar. She also misses her family terribly and suffers a deep, painful guilt thinking that the tragic incident was her fault. And then there’s that other change in Ever’s life --- she now processes psychic abilities.

Ever didn’t escape the car crash alive, at least not at first. She, along with her mom, dad, younger sister and dog, find themselves walking toward a bridge to another, better place. But for some reason, Ever holds back, lingers and then returns to her broken body in the vehicle. And since then, Ever can see auras, an energy of colors surrounding people, depicting their moods and personalities. She also can hear the thoughts of others, predict future events, and sees and talks with her dead sister every day. Ever hates these new “gifts” and tries to protect herself by slinking through society, hiding in baggy, hooded sweatshirts and blaring her iPod to drown out the noise that constantly harasses her. Then she meets Damen Auguste.

Damen is the new guy at school, incredibly handsome, unimaginably rich and quite the charmer. Everyone instantly develops a crush on him, including Ever’s friends Haven and Miles. But Ever wants to keep her space. Damen doesn’t appear to have an aura, and she’s unable to read his thoughts. He just won’t go away, and Ever can’t seem to help falling for him. The more she learns about him and his past, however, the more frightened and confused she becomes. She even tries drowning out the chaos with alcohol, but in the process risks losing the ones she needs the most. Will anything ever make sense again?

Three series:

The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan -- Key words: Demons, magicians. Setting is England. Brothers Nick and Alan have always been on the run from magicians because of the amulet their now insane mother stole from a powerful magician. A boy with a demon's mark and his sister shows up on their doorstep, begging for help. Nick has no desire to help them, but Alan has always been too sympathetic. Then Alan gets marked by a demon, and Nick will do anything to save him. I liked this book because of the solid characters, the wit and dialogue ("If we start selling my body to rich, old ladies now, can I quit school?"), and the well-paced, well-created plot. Two/Three books of the trilogy now published.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare -- Key words: Demon hunters, society of magical creatures, laws. Setting is New York (Brooklyn). Clary Fray witnesses the killing of a demon in a downtown club. When she returns home, her mother is kidnapped by a man who's back from the dead. Jace Wayland, one of the demon hunters from the club, is quite interested in her. He wants to know just why she can see demons...I liked this book because of the modern setting, the sharp wit of characters (Jace is hilarious, trust me), the characters who are shaped differently by the same events, and the secrets that are uncovered over time. (There are a few vampires in here, but they don't glitter in the sun...Well, they're more "realistic," as much as vampires can be. Oh, and the male lead isn't a vampire. The only vampire is a minor character who is undeniably sneaky and manipulative. So, I included this in the recommendations because I figured it's not too much like Twilight.) All three books of the trilogy published.

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr -- Key words: faeries. Ashlynn has always been able to see the fey. The Summer Kin, Keenan, searching for his Summer Queen, is convinced that it's Ashlynn. Ashlynn doesn't want anything with the fey. I liked this because of the politics that aren't too complicated, and the characters (Seth, a human whom Ashlynn is in love with, and the Winter Girl, Donia, the girl Keenan thought was the Summer Queen but actually wasn't) are very distinct. The angst drifting about the novel was very good -- I could easily imagine myself in the various settings of the novels. All four books published.

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. If you fart consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. A pig's orgasm lasts for 30 minutes. Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour. Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people do. A cockroach will live nine days without it's head, before it starves to death. Butterflies taste with their feet. Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin. Walt Disney was afraid of mice. Turtles can breathe through their butts. A crocodile cannot stick its tongue out.

An original answer by Barbie B:

I'm going to give you the more 'cute' love stories that I like, and they are readable and completely different from Twilight. So they are:

1. Flipped (search on Google). It's about a girl that likes a boy for a long long time, the boy thinks she's a pest, and when she gets over him he likes her. It's told in both character's points of view, meaning that the same thing happens but in different points of view. Bryce's, then Julianna's.

2. Stargirl (search on Google). It's about a girl that's completely different from others but falls in love with a boy named Leo who wishes that Stargirl could just become a normal person. It does have love in it but it is also about role models and about who you are.

I personally love both books, and check them out! Stargirl is going to be in theatres in December!!!

This is my favorite. There's 6 books in the series so far, but the chapters fly. Extremely good books. There's action, humor, romance. Plus it's very interesting and you get caught up in the ride :)
