Hi I have to pick two books for a summative assignment in school and we were given a BIG list of books...most of which I've never heard of. Can anyone tell me if they've read ANY of these [[http://www.earlhaig.ca/departments/english/downloads/!ENG%204U%20-%20ILRP/AwardWinningBooks2007(2).xls]] books and which are good/worthwhile?? (I need two, which I'll have to compare/contast). Thanks

I've read Atonement by Ian McEwan, What Was She Thinking?: Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller, and White Teeth by Zadie Smith. They were all good. I also read Saturday by Ian McEwan, which I did not enjoy as much. I loved the movie Breakfast on Pluto, and think the book is probably worthwhile. I hear great things about Sarah Waters as well; she's been on my to-read list for a while. Good luck!

Well, I personally haven't read any of those books, but my mom has read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, and it's one of her favorite books ever (and she's a big reader). So, you might think about trying that out.

The only one on your list that I've read is Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates. I really enjoyed it. It is a fictional biography of Marylin Monroe, based on the events of her life. I was a really fascinating read about a very sad life. I would certainly recommend it.

I second The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay. Everyone I know who has read it has absolutely loved it.
