Question:
What are some good books for a 16 year old female to read?
2011-11-21 21:57:12 UTC
I like all types of books, comedy, romance, mystery, adventure etc.

Books I have read include Harry Potter Series, Redwall series, Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The Narnia books, Alice in Wonderland, Through the looking glass, Invitation to a Beheading, Macbeth, Othello, King Lea, Romeo and Juliet (plays I know, but I'll include them) all Terry Pratchett books, The Dune Series, the old Kingdom trilogy, holes, black wind, the last Templar, winterbirth, farewell to Russia, Dr. Zhivago, eon, black hawk down, clear and present danger, dark apostle, illiad and odyssey, far horizons, the lost symbol, da Vinci code, angels and demons, snow falcon, chain of voices, gone with the wind, the shack, Jane eyre, great expectations, lord of the silver bow, the bone woman, Nips XI, born free etc. Theres more but I'm not going to list every. Single. One

That should give a general gist of the books like, namely all types.
I tried to read twilight, got up to where she was in hospital and then realized I possessed too many brain cells to comprehend Meyers logic.

I don't like the skullduggery books or hunger game so not them either.

If you think you know some good books, please do say, because I am currently starved for literature.

Thank you.

Haha. "I possessed too many brain cells to comprehend Meyers logic." Hahahaha. Nice.

Hm. Let's see. Yeah! Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. It has Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance. I absolutely LOVE them!

Summery of Eragon- Eragon, a young farm boy, finds a marvelous blue stone in a mystical mountain place. Before he can trade it for food to get his family through the hard winter, it hatches a beautiful sapphire-blue dragon, a race thought to be extinct. Eragon bonds with the dragon, and when his family is killed by the marauding Ra'zac, he discovers that he is the last of the Dragon Riders, fated to play a decisive part in the coming war between the human but hidden Varden, dwarves, elves, the diabolical Shades and their neanderthal Urgalls, all pitted against and allied with each other and the evil King Galbatorix. Eragon and his dragon Saphira set out to find their role, growing in magic power and understanding of the complex political situation as they endure perilous travels and sudden battles, dire wounds, capture and escape.

And there is The Secrets Of Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Micheal Scott. The Alchemyst, The Magician, The Sorceress, The Necromancer and The Warlock.

Summery of The Alchemyst- Twin 15-year-old siblings Sophie and Josh Newman take summer jobs in San Francisco across the street from one another: she at a coffee shop, he at a bookstore owned by Nick and Perry Fleming. In the vey first chapter, armed goons garbed in black with "dead-looking skin and... marble eyes" (actually Golems) storm the bookshop, take Perry hostage and swipe a rare Book (but not before Josh snatches its two most important pages). The stolen volume is the Codex, an ancient text of magical wisdom. Nick Fleming is really Nicholas Flamel, the 14th-century alchemist who could turn base metal into gold, and make a potion that ensures immortality. Sophie and Josh learn that they are mentioned in the Codex's prophecies: "The two that are one will come either to save or to destroy the world." Mayhem ensues, as Irish author Scott draws on a wide knowledge of world mythology to stage a battle between the Dark Elders and their hired gun—Dr. John Dee—against the forces of good, led by Flamel and the twins (Sophie's powers are "awakened" by the goddess Hekate, who'd been living in an elaborate treehouse north of San Francisco). Not only do they need the Codex back to stop Dee and company, but the immortality potion must be brewed afresh every month. Time is running out, literally, for the Flamels. Proceeding at a breakneck pace, and populated by the likes of werewolves and vampires, the novel ends on a precipice, presumably to be picked up in volume two.

If that's enough of fantasy, try reading books by Jodi Picoult like My Sister's Keeper, Mercy, Keeping Faith, The Pact, House Rules, etc.

If you like reading things related to mythology, then I suggest you read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. It's meant for little kids, but It's awesome in it's own fantastic way. Now it's a movie, too. It's called the Lightning Thief. There's also another book that was just created into a series called Unearthly, which talks about a sixteen year old girl who is half angel. Another series I love is called The Immortals series by Alyson Noel. And also the House Of Night Series by P.C. and Kristen Cast. All the books listed above are some of my favorites, and I know I'm forgetting some, but for now, these are the ones that are in my train of thought.

Hope I could help!

You've got a guy's taste.

Hmm..

The Dresden files definitely belong there. Frank Herbert's "The Lazarus Effect" . Simon Green's Nightside. You could try if you're old enough for some Michael Swanwick or William Gibson.
