1. Best way to come up with a unique, appropriate, and available domain name?
2. Best place to register said domain name?
3. Where to host your blog at?
4. Adsense, or no Adsense? and what other advertising things are available?
5. Stat-tracker?
6. How/Should I allow people to register, or sign up through e-mail? or is there another option to try and keep readers coming back/enhance traffic?
7. How frequent should you post? I was thinking at least once a day, more frequently if time permits.
8. Plan on writing more in book form than blog form, pro's/con's/recommendation about that?

and any other tips I may have forgot to ask about.... Thanks.

and if you don't feel like answering all questions, still appreciate any answers no matter how limited.

well, I can't answer all your questions, but...

try a non-sequitor for a unique domain name, like www.wacoistaco.com, something strange that will make people wonder about you

Once a day post would be ideal, posted at around the same time each day. People like regularity, and they like being able to read something new everyday. If you post less often, you won't get as many people coming back.

I'd like to see a blog in book form...don't make it like a diary, those kinds of blogs come off as self-important and boring. Share your interesting thoughts, not what you did today...

Good luck. Yahoo has some advertising thingie for a fee that's supposed to increase traffic, but I couldn't vouch for it personally

Wordpress all the way! I started with Blogger and they flagged my blog because I was using Adbrite and Adsense at the same time. Sucks, I had an Alexa rating of 200,000. I would use Adsense on your blog but remember it's all about driving traffic. No traffic, no Adsense money. Make 3 to 5 posts a week so Google will continue to index your site which will get you a higher ranking in search engines. Spend some time seoing your site and driving traffic before using Adsense. Personally, I'd go with Livejournal; you can set up a free journal on or purchase an account if you'd prefer. It has the facility to log who Visit your site (just switch your visibility to visible), people can friend you to follow your journal or send you private messages if they want. Also, easy to set up and manage / post on. If you have a free account, you will have an ad somewhere, but you can choose the layout and where you want it to be on your page. With a paid account, you can either get rid of the ads or choose to have adsense (I think it's that one- either that or similar)

I'd blog every couple of days at least, once a day is better.

If you're writing in book form, you can post your prose under a cut so that people can see your latest blogs and summaries easily and then just click on the cut to expand the content underneath. It means that you can keep more new blog entries on the same page.

Hi! I've never had a blog before, so I can't really offer answers for those questions. But you mentioned that your posts would be more in "book" form (I'll assume posts will resemble chapters in a story). If your interested, that's a great website called "fictionpress.net" which is for just that -- authors to post original stories and receive reviews/feedback per chapter. If the story isn't original, there's another site called fanfiction, Anyways, I apologize if you're already familiar with this. Good luck!
