I need to do a book review for my holiday assignment and I have until January next year. I have no idea how to begin my search for the right book so yup I'm looking for suggestions! preferably books that are not shallow (i.e no chick-lits) because.. well you know teachers. hahaha. so perhaps something like My Sister's Keeper? :) thanks a bunch in advance! hope I'm not too picky ><

ps. please try not to suggest books with strong political themes :/

Well, here are my favorite books/series:

The Vampire Diaries-L.J. Smith. VERY GOOD!!!!! The first book is The Awakening and The Struggle (Two books are combined in one. This was a 4 book series, but they condensed it into 2 and republished it) Recently, a 3rd book, Nightfall, has been released.

The House of Night series-P.C Cast + Kristen Cast. EXTREMELY GOOD!!!! It gets better each book!! First book: Marked. This has alot of cussing and dirty talk, so only read this if you are very mature.

Vampire Academy series- Richelle Mead. Another EXTREMELY GOOD for this one! It's kinda like Harry Potter, in that there's a whole world and society that humanity is unaware of- of Vampires! First book is Vampire Academy, followed by Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, and Blood Promise.

The Mortal Instruments series- Cassandra Clare. Really awsome!!!! It's all I can say!! The first book is City of Bones! Followed by City of Ashes and City of Glass.

The Secret of Laurel Oaks- Lois Ruby. Quite good! An awsome story that switches between the past and the present, in a haunted plantation.

Uglies series- Scott Westerfeld. An amazing sci fi. Truly amazing. First book: Uglies, followed by Pretties, Specials, and Extras.

Midnighters-Scott Westerfeld. I didn't really think it would be good, but I was out of books for the moment so I checked it out, and it was really good! Better than I thought. Scott Westerfeld is an awsome writer.

How to Ditch Your Fairy- Justine Larbalestier. Pretty good! A very interesting story... written by Scott Westerfeld's wife, so you know it's gotta be good!

Likely Story series- David Van Etten. Pretty cool! the first book is Likely Story.

Maximum Ride-James Patterson. Really good!!! Prepare to soar, literally! First book: Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment.

Gone series- Michael Grant. This is a very interesting story! Really interesting.... it's cool! The first book is Gone, followed by Hunger.

Skinned- Robin Wasserman. Another cool sci fi. Second book is Crashed.

Warriors series-Erin Hunter. If you are a cat lover, or enjoy animal stories, then you would probably like this one. There are three separate series in this, so be sure to get the very first one. It is Into the Wild.

Hope I helped! Some of these are becoming movies, too! You should also just browse the bookstore, too. That is how I found most of these amazing stories!

Well if you liked "My sister's Keeper" Than the same author wrote another book called "Second Glance" Not like "My Sister's Keeper" BUt it has a brilliant storyline. Digital Fortress By Dan Brown, The Naked Face by Sydney Sheldon( I recommend the most). Stephen King's Misery was a GREAT book. I've read it many times.

Hope this helped! :D

I loved the book "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. But I'm not sure what type of book that you're looking for? It is really good though!
