Ok so I am kind of going insane because lately I can't find good books. I have no clue what to bring with me on holiday and I was hoping someone would suggest some interesting books. Please no young adult books I am not a teenager. Some of the books I have enjoyed are The Book Thief, To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, His Dark Materials trilogy, some Dan Brown books though I wouldn't say I loved them, Alone in Berlin, Emma, Alice in Wonderland...that's all I can think of at the minute...so please suggest some good books for me they can be any genre I'm not fussy just want a good book!!!

Thanks

I think you would enjoy Dinner At The Homesick Restaurant by Anne Tyler. Also have you read any Amy Tan books (I recommend The Kitchen God's Wife and The Joy Luck Club particularly) or Annie Proulx? The Shipping News is a magical book. Any of these would be fantastic holiday companions :) Oh and if you can get a Truman Capote anthology . . .wow . . . or Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh . . . .

When i first started reading your question i thought i wouldn't be able to suggest anything because i am a teenager and tend to read young adult books. Then i realised that i have read almost every book you mention and i thought that maybe my book taste isn't as young as i thought. I have a few ideas:

Room by Emma Donoghue. Definately not a children's book. Do not be discouraged because it is from the point of view of a five-year-old boy! It changed my perspective on the world and i think everyone should read it at some point in their life.

Have you read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. Very sad.

You mention His Dark Materials trilogy, have you read the Ruby in the Smoke? It's by the same author (Philip Pullman) but aimed at an older audience.

There's also the rest of the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy series. They're very good although none as good as the first one.

You could always opt for some Terry Pratchett. It's mostly aimed at a fairly young audience but who couldn't love Terry Pratchett?

You mention a couple of classics and there are plenty of those. Have you read any Dickens? I find them a bit slow-paced at times but if you're looking for more adult books, that's always an option.
