Question:
Does anyone else think that Harry Potter could be the heir of Godric Gryffindor?
?

My reason i ask this for is because if you take a look at this passage i'm going to put you'll understand why I've asked this question.

I know this is a fiction novel, but it's interesting to find out and i know i could ask this question to J.K. Rowling herself, but i would like to know what you people who like Harry Potter thinks about it and also Harry has never really known his family, so he doesn't know har far back his family name goes back to and i also know that his mum Lilly was a muggle-born, so i'm thinking more his dad James' side of the family.

I know, I believed it too until J.K. Rowling shot that theory down during an interview with Melissa Anelli and Emerson Spartz.

MA: What about Harry's family — his grandparents — were they killed?

JKR: No. This takes us into more mundane territory. As a writer, it was more interesting, plot-wise, if Harry was completely alone. So I rather ruthlessly disposed of his entire family apart from Aunt Petunia. I mean, James and Lily are massively important to the plot, of course, but the grandparents? No. And, because I do like my backstory: Petunia and Lily's parents, normal Muggle death. James's parents were elderly, were getting on a little when he was born, which explains the only child, very pampered, had-him-late-in-life-so-he's-an-extra-treasure, as often happens, I think. They were old in wizarding terms, and they died. They succumbed to a wizarding illness. That's as far as it goes. There's nothing serious or sinister about those deaths. I just needed them out of the way so I killed them.

MA: That sort of shuts down Heir of Gryffindor [theories], as well.

JKR: [Pause.] Yeah. Well - yeah.

MA: Another one bites the dust.

It seems possible. BUT just to clear things up, Voldy's mother didn't have the surname Slytherin. Merope, her brother (can't remember his name), and her father Marvolo all had the surname Gaunt. Therefore, it must have been Marvolo Gaunt's mother or grandmother who was a child of Salazar Slytherin. We know that Marvolo and his children were all magical. For Marvolo himself to be a descendent of Slytherin, it HAD to be on his side. It is quite possible that Harry's paternal grandfather or great-grandfather was a child of Godric Gryffindor. OR, if you believe like I do, the descendent of Lily Potter's that was magical and married a muggle was a child or grandchild of Gryffindor. (Think about it...it makes sense...how else could there be one child magical and another not?? - Comparing Lily and Petunia here.)

Yes i think Harry Potter is the heir of Godric Gryffindor especially because James and Lily Potter lived at Godric's Hollow.

I don't think he has to actually be a descendant of Godric Gryffindor to be his heir, it is how he behaved that made Dumbledor say what he did. On the other hand if you remember Sirius Black said that all wizarding families were related because of inter marriage.

Actually I'm thinking that too. But i have been leaning towards that since we learnt that V is heir of slytherin and thete are so many similarities between v and HP. Also, HP seems to be Gryffindor personified.

Im not sure. Ive never thought about it. It seems reasonable, seeing as Ginny Weasly was the heir of Slytherin.

first, why did you stop? i could have kept reading..any-who, i think that there is a possibility of harry being heir to griffindor. i thought of this before and i also wondered if dumbldore was his heir...i wish j.k. would print a family tree or some kind of book just for the unanswered questions..

I am sure Harry is not a descendant of Griffindor. The whole point of the story is about pride of so-called 'pure bloods' and descendants. however, its ultimately what we are that counts and that is what is reflected in almost all the books during the endings contain. so, its very unlikely.. may be J.K.R wanted to portray something that says.. its our actions that make us what we are.. !!

i think it might be dumbledore. he seems the type. and to the person who said Slytherins heir was Ginny, you might want to reread the second book. it Voldemort, not ginny, as dumbledore clearly explains

I don't think he is a direct heir of Godric, but maybe somehow related.

im not sure if he is related, but there has to be some sort of connection. let us not forget that his parents lived and were killed in GODRICS hollow. only time will tell!!
