Why do people love the Twilight series and Harry Potter and stuff like that?

I really don't see why people like those series. I just don't get why you would read about fantasy love in the Twilight series and all. And Harry Potter, that's a like a whole new story from the movies my friends begged me to watch.

I think that both series give hope to people who feel like they may not have any. Realize that the heroes of both stories are plain - not rich, or even pretty. They just are, like most of us are. It relates to us all, because the majority of us are normal, and dream of a day when something extraordinary will happen. Like we meet our prince charming, or we can conquer the evil in the world. Every girl who has ever felt like she is plain, now has a reason to hope that she may find her Edward, and every little boy who feels unloved can also hope that he too may find solace in others. Cheers.

Well Twilight is for teenage girls and Harry Potter is for...teenage girls I guess. Here is the thing, I have never read Twilight, nor do I plan to OR watch the movie; chick flicks and romance novels aren't my forte'. Harry Potter on the other hand is for a broad audience, teenage girls and just about anyone who picks up a book. The films on the other hand are somewhat gay for the exception of the first 3 which rely on the heavy fan-base and not women in their period. Dare not compare the both, Twilight is for fagsandorwhores, whereas Harry Potter is for someone with plenty of knowledge. Thank you.

They are interesting. People like to read about things that can't really happen. It helps expand your imagination. Just like Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia Harry Potter and Twilight take the reader to a different world where anything is possible. No matter how old you get you still want to believe that magic and happy endings are possible and do happen somewhere. Just like where you're a kid and Santa Clause is one of the most exciting things you have ever heard of. Did you ever feel like something was missing from Christmas after you found out Santa didn't exist? That's what the world would feel like all the time if we didn't have stories like these. That's why people love them.

Harry potter is an amazing series. It is witty, imaginative, entertaining, thought provoking and beautifully written. A lot of us, including me grew up with it, and the story grew with us. A person of any age can read Harry Potter and get completely wrapped up in the story. Mainly, it is the way the story is written, it is an entirely new world, all created and every question answered by Ms. Rowling.
As for Twilight, I couldn't tell you. It is very poorly written. Stephanie Meyer uses the same phrases and word choices over and over, and creates characters who have low self esteem and are self deprecating. Her stories lack imagination. Where Rowling creates an entire new world and creatively introduces information in a way that astounds us, Meyer introduces information in completely predictable and redundant ways, and offers nothing new. Instead of creating a new world with interesting characters rooted in Greek mythology and folklore, she decides to have vampires present in an American high school. How innovative.
Twilight is a teen fad- Harry Potter is an amazing piece of literature that will withstand the test of time.

Harry Potter is the ONLY type of that stuff that I like because it's a Brilliant series (i'm not a big fan of cheesy teen romance novels, fantasy, or that other teeny-bopper stuff). The movies do leave a few details out, but that's what makes the books so speciaI but I think the movies are excellent and very well done... I could care less about that other stuff. I just read and enjoy what I like...I like to hear other people's opinions on it, but other than that I just read and watch what I want because I like it.

The storylines are excellent. I have a niece who is a HUGE Chronicles of Narnia fan (you should see her room lol). And I asked Kris about it and she said she likes a good story and the characters came to life for her. I watched the movie, The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe, and I can see her point. Made me a fan so now I want to start reading the books myself.
Not into Harry Potter but I think it comes down to the same; good story, believable characters, you care about the characters and the plot even though Lions don't talk in real life.
I'm thinking about reading Twilight even though like I said I'm not into Harry Potter because I like a good romance.
So I think it comes down to how well it's written and how believable the characters are and how much it draws you in and doesn't let go!

Well, Harry Potter is actually an extremely entertaining series of fantasy novels that takes children AND adults to a whole other realm that can't be found in reality.
I love these books and the movies are fascinating, as well.
But Twilight is a whole different story. You should know, if you haven't read the series yet, that these books aren't even worth reading the back cover.
As far as vampire literature is concerned, this is trash. So I don't exactly have an answer to your question referring to enjoying Twilight--because I DON'T.
I tend to read books that aren't written for 4 year olds.

1. People [teenage girls and their sexually frustrated mothers] like Twilight because it's an easy read about finding the perfect man ever, and gives them false hope about love in the real world.
2. People like Harry Potter because it's a basic story with good triumphing over evil. It's easy for kids to understand at a kid level, but also adults can connect with real life events and characters. Also the fandom is awesome!

This question is really ignorant. If I knew your favorite book, and I didn't like it, I could say the same thing- Why do you like it so much? Everyone is different and has their own likes and dislikes, that's what makes us different.
I am a huge Twilight and Harry Potter fan, but I'm saying this in general, not just to defend my favorite series ;] <3

Well Harry Potter for the most of us started when we were in middle school and once you start the series you want to finish them. So I didn't finish HP until I was 21 (when the last book came out). The other one..it's just a good way to get away from reality. It's nice to check out every once in a while and be swept away from a really good story. You don't have to like them and you don't have to get it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

It's an escape. In these bad times, with all these bad things happening around us, Twilight and Harry Potter are the most fantastical things in the world. They let you escape from the boring existence here and go to a place where beautiful vampires exist, or where saying certain words make things magically appear.
And that, I think, is what both parents and children are trying to look for. Another world, escape, a time to relax and get away from here.

Because essentially people are dissatisfied and want something more interesting than this. It might be because of insecurity - people don't believe they can make it in the real world, and so they imagine fantasy worlds which they were so 'obviously' built for.
Fantasy is fantasy.
It's comforting. I love fantasy.

because it will keep u interested even with a horrible (referring to twilight) plot. even if u were saying in ur head the whole time 'wow this is bad', it still was funny, decent, and horrible (again refering to twilight)
harry potter is good tho
i dont see why someone would not like harry potter

Both series are based on things that could never happen, and hence we are left to "fantasize" about what could happen if those things could actually be part of our existence. I certainly wish I could wave a magic wand and do spells ;)
