Question:
Harry Potter Fans? Question about pet-peeves...?

Does it ever bug you when you say to someone something along the lines of, "Are you a Harry Potter fan?" and their reply is something like, "Yeah! I've read all seven books!" Then they act all smug and try and tear you down when you tell them you've read them however many times? Like they think they're cool because they've read them once, but then act all offended when you say you've read them more.

LOL!! Sorry for that, but does this ever happen to you? What are some of your other pet-peeves concerning HP?

No.....just no.....YOU WEIRDO!! XD

My one pet peeve is when people say" I bet I am a bigger Harry Potter fan than you" because that's just the silliest thing to say...I am OBVIOUSLY the biggest potter fan...no doubt about it.....DURRR...those stupid idiots........

But for REAL XD...it just bothers me..because you no one is the biggest....everyone has a different view on what the biggest or most of anything is...so the concept itself is stupid..and stupidity bothers me becasue I am the only one allowed to be stupid.....

I have this classmate who reads history novels, and she read HP with the excuse that it included 'mythical creatures'- how on earth is that history related?? Any way, she read the series, [btw, I read the entire series 7 times a year (did I mention 7 is my favorite number)]; and began quizzing me on the entire series as in, what class does hermione have on Monday morning in her 4th year? How the heck can I know that? Its not my fault she's a solid carbon copier of books. Idiot.

She bugged me for a week saying I'm not a true HP fan. Stupid girl. Then I asked her the most obvious question any 7 year old who read Harry Potter would know. 'Who died at the end of OotP?'

She got all defiant and said she doesnt answer stupid quetsions. How stupid can someone get? And she hit back saying the read the entire series. I rebuked saying that I had read it 67 times (well, it was actually 54, but....). She gave a mocking smile and went away.

My blood was virtually boiling. Silly pet-peeve.

No, it's actually the other way around with me. When someone acts all "You're not a real Potter fan!" with me when I tell them that I haven't read the series ten thousand times like they have. Truth be told, I think I've read the entire series once, but I've read specific books of the series several times (as in I've read GOF five times, but I've only read OOTP once and a half....). So yeah, I hate it when people say I'm not a real Potter fan when I haven't read it as many times as they have.

I also hate it when people call themselves a fan when they've only seen the movies. I mean, I don't really care if there are some people out there who think it's a cute movie series, but don't want to be bothered with the books, I have no problem with that. But don't go off and call yourself a Potter fan if you don't deserve the title. It's annoying.

I hate Potter fans that freak out if someone says they didn't like the books for valid reasons. I can understand getting annoyed if someone doesn't like the books for crappy reasons, but when someone gives you a just reason, you shouldn't start screaming hexes and jinxes at the person because that just wont help.

I hate Potter fans that give other Potter fans a bad name. I'll trust that you all know what I mean by that.

There are others, but it's late and I want to go to bed, so I wont name them.

Ha, luckily, that has never happened to me. :)

One pet-peeve that always gets to me is when people claim they're Harry Potter fans and explain that they are fans because they've watched all the movies over 100 times or whatever.

Another pet-peeve is when overly obsessive fansm pick at every tiny detail that isn't right in the movies. Some of those people just have to understand that movie adaptations are that. Adaptations. Not the book.

And a last pet-peeve is the one where people claim that the books are boring. Yeah, not evil or childish, but boring. I just don't understand how it can be boring. I just don't... :P

I hate it when people quiz you on Harry Potter, then when you don't know the answer, they yell at you for not knowing and how much of an unfaithful HP fan you are.

The girl who sits across from me in maths, think I'm some Harry Potter prodigy because I covered my maths book in HP contact and I use a HP pencilcase :)

Then she brought this HP quiz book to school, and asked me this question about which book the Lovegood's were first mentioned and I said the fifth and she screamed at me for abusing the name of a Harry Potter fan.

She's weird. She talks about horses all the time.

Lol Joshms. Was that the joke about the light bulb?

oh that's just the beginning of it!

I was in the school library the other day, for example, and my friend and I were reading half-sentences in OOTP and making each other complete the sentence off by heart (as you do)

anyway, a couple of girls from the year below come up to us and are like "ooh, harry potter! I love harry potter"

so me and my friend get all excited, and start telling them about out mugglenet fan of the week successes, our favourite fansites and fanfiction authors, until the girls give us funny looks and say

"oh.. we just like the movies. never read the books."

which is just really awkward. because i only like to tell people about my "harry side" once i get to know them, otherwise they think im totally weird (which i dont deny)

then there are the people who when they hear that you like HP have an allergic reaction to it because its "harry potter".

like if they actually read the books, they wouldnt be arguing.

and it really annoys me because I always think im about to make a new friend who also loves harry potter, but when i let out HOW much i like (love) harry potter they just give me weird looks and "back away slowly"

but then there are also the people who have actually read HP series like 3 or 4 times but try to dilute their love for it because they dont want to associate themselves with the harry potter prejudice

not that 3 or 4 times is a lot, thats like my monthly rate..

i totally would have gotten the mars is bright tonight thing :)

I've never really had that happen to me (LOL) but sometimes people will ask me "Do you like Harry Potter" and, since I'm a HUGE fan, I'll be like, "Yeah, I love it, I've read all the books at least six times each," (no joke--I'm a very avid reader), and their eyes'll get all unfocused or wide or something and then they'll try to hurry and get away like I'm infectious or something. A lot of people don't like HP, but I don't see why not. JK Rowling does a phenomenal job in structuring her stories as well as creating fantastic characters. I know she probably didn't think it ALL up herself, but STILL! :)

Yes, I hate things like that.

Yesterday Lyra turned to Shelby and I and said some quote. When neither of us got what book it was from, she started telling us how we're not "true" fans. The quote didn't even have anything to do with the series.

**Found it!

The quote was "Mars is bright tonight."

How were we supposed to know that was from Harry Potter? It's completely irrelevant to the plot, and it's not memorable at all.

Not knowing a quote doesn't mean you're not a fan.

I don't know, I'm still angry about it though. That's really my pet-peeve, is when I hear the words "true fan" being said accusingly. There are no *fake* fans.

When people say its evil, poisins the mind of children.. Blah Blah.. who cares what they think??

Death is but a crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live on in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent. In this divine glass, they see face to face; and their converse is free, as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, ever present, because immortal

My pet peeves are concerning HP fanfiction. I don't read a lot of fanfiction, but I don't like silly pairings like Hermione with people like Flitwick or Mad Eye.

I also don't like when the author decides to make themselves a character and have themselves hook up with one of the main characters. It doesn't make sense. Maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I only really like canon pairings. And Percy with Pansy. :-P

You could use the name of Hermione's cat; I think it was Crookshanks. Or maybe Hedwig (Harry's owl). There are also lots of human characters with interesting names.

I really hate it when your discussing the final chapter in the 7th book with a friend and another person says "Be quiet! I haven't read that yet, don't spoil it for me!" They have had A YEAR to read it! if they cared that much they would've already read it!
