Chiaroscuro.

What do you think of when you hear it?

Chiaroscuro in art is characterized by strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. - Wikipedia meaning.

This story is not about art, but about the conflicts of Light and Dark - Good and Evil. Or something like that.

Thanks in advance.

Chiaroscuro is creative, and I like it.

But half of the people seeing it might not even know what is means, and the other half might not know how to pronounce it.

Some people might not even give it a second glance. If I was in a bookshop, I would look at the name of the book first, if it is nice, I look at the cover, or, blurb, I don't care much for the cover, only the title and blurb.

And for me, I think I would pick up a book named Chiaroscuro. Seems interesting.

It's your book, so you choose what you want.

Photography techniques.

I only hear the art side of it, sorry. I guess it's a cool word, though, but that's not really reason enough to have it as a title.

EDIT: Have you finished the book? I leave the official naming until I've done, because I probably will think of better things by then. Keep Chiaroscuro as a 'working title' and change it at the end when a better idea walks into your head.

Don't listen to Tomio.

Haha, the randomness of you BQ made me laugh. Anyway, nope I don't name my chapters. I really dislike it when authors do that because it diverts my focus from the actual writing and sometimes it tells you what's going to happen. When a book I'm reading does this I ususally ignore it. In my book I switch POVs so they go: "Chapter One - Mathew... Chapter Two - Dani" and so on. No, I don't think so. I generally don't like chapter names, so I don't think any of my books will have chapter names. I do have parts in my book (Part One - Ruin, Part Two - Arrival). Never say never, though, maybe if the book calls for it, if it needs it, then I'll put in chapter names. It is up to the author, and there's no right answer, but I would only have chapter names if it added something to the book. I suppose the words "Chapter whatever number we're on" would be distracting and perhaps draw you out of the fantasy world a bit and so the chapter names keep that element of fiction going. But I would be intially against chapter names, if I were to pick a side, haha. BQ - Aw, no I don't. I do really want a dog, though. HAHAHA - Curious potato. Classic...

I think it would be an odd word to use unless there's _some_ sort of connection to art in the story. Is it a word your main character would know? Is it a word your target audience will know? If so, I am not it :)

Given how esoteric a word it is, I'm worried that the net effect will be that it looks as if you're trying to be clever.

I like the title after it has been explained but an effective title should be simple and still effective. In a bookshop, the spines that stand out are the ones with simple, bold, effective titles.

Nothing as i didn't know what it meant. If you want a broader audience you need something more gripping. If you are just trying to be pseudo-intellectual about it though and can't be bothered with an actual plot then it's fine I guess.

Good title if more people knew the meaning of the word, bad title because even so, it sounds too artsy for a non artsy book.

How about only Oscuro? Now thats a title I'd wanna check out!

Not really feeling it.

Sure it's clever and all, but still, not really feeling it.
